Quick help needed - cake sizing

About to make cake for ds1's birthday tomorrow. Have a reactangular cake topper.

I have only ever made round sponge cakes before. Will the normal victoria sponge recipe do or will I have to go bigger? I've seen a recipe with 5 eggs, but will this be too big. Was hoping to slice cake in half to do filling as only have one tin!

Looks to me like the normal recipe makes two 8 inch rounds so it should fill a rectangular cake pan nicely as well.

If your recipe makes two 9" rounds that would probably be even closer, actually.

I forget that your pans probably aren't measured in inches at all-but no matter-two rounds will convert to a good size, i.e. 13x9 inch or equivalent rectangle.

Thanks - I actually ended up doing the recipe with 5 eggs as I found I had 2 rectangular tins. Bit tight with the mixture, but hoping it'll be ok. Feeling very stressed as dds were helping! I didn't feel in a cooking with children mood, but we've strugled through!!
