New breadmaker

I've had several Aldi breadmakers over the years and been perfectly happy with them. I'd read all the hype about Panasonics so when I lost a paddle I decided to trade up to a 255. The first loaf is made, and all I can say is WOW! The bread is only bloody fantastic, and that was just the rapid loaf. I'm never buying bread again! Anyone care to share their favourite recipes, because I can't decide what to make next! The first loaf is nearly gone already I am going to get fat fatter!

How much was it? Where did you get it from?
(Am in the market for a new one)

the cheese and bacon bread is lovely with eggs in the morning or the fruit loaf just disappears here.

glastocat · 23/05/2009 20:41

I got in Argos in Cork, so probably not much use to you. They are a pretty good price on Amazon though. Really worth every penny (first loaf is gone already!

The fruit loaf in the Panasonic recipe book is gorgeous! I usually make the rapid recipe for bread, but have just got used to using the timer so the loaf is ready in the morning. French dough is also lovely made into rolls. Has also made me fatter! I've also made croissants from the recipe book but they take ages and are fiddly (but very yummy!)The wholemeal recipe is also really good, but I use dough lightener from Lakeland, as it is a lot heavier in texture than white. Got mine from Amazon, was best price at the time.

We love the oat and bran recipe for breakfast. I use half white and halft wholemeal spelt flour. I also use oatbran instead of wheatbran - it is sooooo delicious.

The 5 seeded bread is amazing too.

Rindercella · 23/05/2009 21:08

Ooh, have just taken my new 255 out of the box. I am really looking forward to trying out those recipes now!

catinthehat2 · 23/05/2009 21:15

Mrs R = I have seen them on Ebay from (clearly bonkers) people who have them and don't use them.

My Panasonic is poss 4 or 5 yrs old (forget !) and is used every 2 days for bog standard 70% wholemeal. If it died I would be happy going for an older lightly used PAnasonic tp get a good price.
If you want new, then Google Shopping is your friend as usual - I bet Amazon is the best price still.

wiggletastic · 23/05/2009 21:19

I have used the panasonic recipes but prefer the recipes from 'The Breadmaker Bible' by Karen Saunders. Lots more variety and ideas for dough, cakes etc. The only problem is you have to put the ingredients in the machine in the opposite order.

AitchTwoOh · 23/05/2009 21:29

the french loaf is great imo, very crunchy sides and top. and i do the seeded one a lot too. i think the 2 hour loaf is KEECH btw, so you are really in for a major treat.

wiggletastic · 23/05/2009 21:50

lol at KEECH AitchTwoOh, do you think anyone else knows what that means?

glastocat · 23/05/2009 21:59

I don't, but I'm guessing minging?

close...

btw invest in some coriander seeds, a teaspoon of them or some fennel seeds tastes just amazing.

glastocat · 23/05/2009 22:13

Ok, I just googled it!

Thanks cat in the hat

We've had our Panasonic for 4 about 4 years - never had a bad loaf - but the timed loaves are a lot nicer than the quick bake!

DH makes hot cross buns with it which are absolutely gorgeous.

dazmum · 26/05/2009 09:46

Does anyone else have trouble cutting the new loaves, ordinary, not rapid bake? How long do you leave it before cutting without doing ginoromus doorstops or slices which are 2 inches one and and only a mm the other? I have one of the bread slicing things from lakeland that allows you to set the slice size, but the new loaves are so soft they just squash away under the knife! We are having delicious but very ugly looking sandwiches!Any ideas or gadgets to help?

grabagran · 26/05/2009 11:25

Ciabatta!Put the usual amount of flour, water, marvel, salt, and sugar in the machine then add three large scoops of olive oil instead of butter. Put it on the 4 hour bake.Switch it off after 3 hours (no more), you can leave it up to 3 hours, or immediately separate the dought into two slipper shapes and bake in a very hot oven on an oiled baking tray for 25 minutes. The best ciabatta going, and considering M&S charge at least a quid just for the one, flipping cheap. To make them crunchier, spray water on them 2 or 3 times during baking, but I can't be bothered. I have has an Aldi, Prima and Hinari breadmaker btw(bread like elephant turds tho) but am now on my 3rd Panasonic-unbeatable.

grabagran · 26/05/2009 11:27

Oh and Dazmum, you have to leave it a good 12 hours before cutting a fresh loaf. We try to get ours out by 9-10 pm in order to get toast from it in the morning.

Thanks grabagran and hanaflower, sorry to be thick, but do you just leave it out on the cooling tray or put it away in a bag or bread bin? I suppose I have only left it for about 4 hours before hacking it into lumps!!

I love the oat and bran loaf - it is lovely. Fruit loaf is a fav her and doesn't last long.

I have yet to make the olive bread.

have done lots of 50% mix breads on rapid and longer.

The french bread is also good - 6 hours to make and it is worth the wait.

Ivykaty44 · 26/05/2009 15:09

Oh and the pizza dough is really good

i keep froozen mushrooms, sweetcorn and peppers in the freezer so that I can whip up a pizza. I use sainsbury mushroom or onion pasta sauce - about three dessert sppons over the base, then sprinkle the other stuff pn and grated cheese over the top. Whak in the oven on gas 6-7 or 30 minuts.

Lovely
