tiger prawns are easy - marinate in a lemon juice, corriander and chilli. put them onto skewers.
salmon fillets are easy as well, with the skin on.

lots of fish cook well
Tuna /swordfish/ salmon ie meaty type fish steaks
whole mackerel /sardines
Fish kebabs
King prawns

I love fish on a bbq

kiltycoldbum · 22/05/2009 20:42

they definitely eat fish though? sardines, prawns, tuna

MrsMcCluskey · 22/05/2009 20:43

Oooh love sardines on the barbie!

Bucharest · 22/05/2009 20:43

Salmon, bream, anything I'd say.

Thanks for your replies.

Yes she eats fish. She just can not eat meat.

Do you cook it straight on the bars or do you need to wrap in foil.

Can you make into kebabs.

sardines fab tasting but bone-tastic. I would do sea bass in a parcel - yummy.
once did swordfish steaks with a spicy rub (think it was a Jamie Oliver recipe) on bbq. fantastic

kiltycoldbum · 22/05/2009 21:12

sardines are a pain in the bum it must be said, id stick with prawns, easy peasy and you know when theyre done!

SomeGuy · 22/05/2009 22:11

sardines are very good bbqed. Make sure they're fresh, just marinate in lemon juice, some cherry tomatoes and olive oil and grill. Easy.

Salmon and tuna would be easiest to find.

scottishmummy · 22/05/2009 22:26

monkfish is robust with good texture.enjoy

lizziemun · 23/05/2009 16:13

Ok i have bought some monkfish now does anyone have a receipe for kebabs.

I also have some bream fillets which i thought i could do with some lemon and dill and wrap in tin foil to cook on the bbq does that sound ok.

fish fingers?

SomeGuy · 23/05/2009 17:31

is it a gas bbq? or coal.

Monkfish doesn't need much, just olive oil, salt and pepper. You could also marinate in olive oil, garlic, lemon and rosemary or sage if you want. Thread onto skewers interleaved with veg (pepper, onion, courgette, aubergine, cherry tomatoes). Or you could just do fish on their own.

Serve with a lemon wedge.

Not really sure I'd do bream fillets in foil, I've a feeling they might be better exposed to direct heat. Lemon and dill is fine, don't forget the salt, pepper and olive oil. Could also dry brushing them with pesto

lizziemun · 23/05/2009 20:04

Gas DH won't do charcoal. Mind you he won't cook on the gas cooker in the kitchen.

Thanks

I think i do a mixture some with veg and some without.

Bream is fine in foil lay it whole skin on, on top of slices of lemon, drizzle olive oil and salt and pepper, wrap it in a parcel, 5 mins and done.

Monkfish with haloumi cheese, pepper, and cherry tomato kebabs - winner. Big chunks of each drizzle with oil bbq, very simple do a rice or cous cous and roasted veg salad and you have a veggie meal.

SomeGuy · 24/05/2009 00:20

Not sure I understand. If he won't cook on the gas cooker, why will he cook on what is effectively an outdoor gas cooker? Coal is much better.

Route to bbqing success:

step 1:

step 2:

Actually this is very good as well:

Stick coal in the top, put newspaper in the bottom, light the newspaper and retire. The column effect means the coals ignite very easily. Within 15 minutes the fire should have reached the top of a full chimney and you're ready to go. No lighter fluid, no firelighters.
