alsorts

Curries
Spag bol
Chilli
Jamie Oliver does a great pot roast chicken recipe too.

I heart my Le Creuset. We got it as a wedding present 6yrs ago and it gets used at least once a week, still looks as good as new.

Moroccan tagines

chillie

I also like cooking a whole chicken in it with loads of shallots, whole cloves of galric, and a cup of uncooked rice and chicken stock. The rice cooks in the chicken juices and is so increadibly delicious. Same can be done with rice and meat bones and veg.

Is it orange?

Whats moroccan tagines?

OP posts:
FigmentOfYourImagination · 18/05/2009 20:04

The only prob is that mine is the biggest one they do and is incredibly heavy when full. Lifting it out of the oven can be a sod !

I love the Teal ones but the colour wasn't around when we got spliced so the blue had to do

wonderingwondering · 18/05/2009 20:05

I use mine everyday, as a frying pan, wok, oven dish (roasting potatoes, meat, as well as cottage pie, lasagne) and casserole. The Le Creuset shallow casserole is fab, best bit of kitchen kit I've ever bought.

parker1313 · 18/05/2009 20:05

Yes mine is very big and I did a small casserole in it tonight and struggled so god knows how Il manage when its full!

Yes any old rice but I prefer uncle ben's for this type of cooking as it holds it's shape so well and doesn't go muchy like basmati might.

I have blue... its gorgeous.
OMDB- what size/weight chicken would fit into an oval 25cm...3.2l casserole please?

zanz1bar · 18/05/2009 21:41

Bake bread in mine.Olive green.

still have my mums orange oval from the 60's

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 21:58

I'm sorry but I really don't know

I just buy the chicken and bung it in, but I buy little chickens . You can also cut the chicken into peices on the bone, it will take less time. Nice with chunky carrots and french beans.

SomeGuy · 19/05/2009 00:09

you can get Le Creusets cheap on Amazon occasionally. I lust after the 28cm, unfortunately I missed it when it was £49 a few months ago.

We have the 24cm (4.2l), and it fits a chicken/guinea fowl/beef brisket, but there's not much room for vegetables as well.

Not really sure why they make oval ones as well as round, but they do have smaller capacity for same diamater

SomeGuy · 19/05/2009 00:15

btw, for a tagine best thing is unglazed earthenware, this seasons over time

ChampagneDahling · 19/05/2009 12:30

I looove my Le Creuset but OMG they're heavy when full. You can cook just about anything in them

LovelyDear · 19/05/2009 12:33

i inherited my le creusets from my mum. as far as i'm concerned they're better than any jewels or paintings might have been!

ninedragons · 19/05/2009 12:42

You can bake bread in them? Do you mind giving me a quick run-down on how?

I have a few, they're my guilty pleasure. And I found a vintage one in a charity shop a fortnight ago - I had that out the door before you could say "help the cancer patients".

The oval ones are good if you have a small oven and want to put something else in beside it. The round ones take up the whole shelf.

zanz1bar · 19/05/2009 12:55

Check out 'youtube' newyork times no-knead bread.

Sorry can't do links.

The le creuset acts like a dutch double oven, keeping the heat and importantly the moisture in so you get a crisp farmers market like crust and moist crumb inside.

Put the pot in a hot hot oven to really heat up, put dough in , lid back on , back in oven for 30 mins, lid off to brown up 20 mins ish.

Any bread recipe, don't grease the bread will pop out ok.

In commercial ovens they inject high pressure steam, this method keeps the steam in a mini oven climate.

ninedragons · 19/05/2009 16:00

Fantastic, thanks for that.

EachPeachPearMum · 19/05/2009 19:54

Wow- I am going to try bread definitely!
