Progressive Dinner - Main course ideas needed

dejags · 03/05/2005 21:35

Any ideas? We are having four complete strangers for main course on Friday night and I cannot think of anything to give them.

DH will not settle for something simple like lasagne but I also have to think about catering to varying tastes.

Suggestions would be most welcome

Excuse my ignorance - what is a progressive dinner?

moondog · 04/05/2005 08:53

Oh,rave from de grave!! Parents did this in the 70s!! (Different course at a different house ggg)

How about.....

good Thai curry
Boeuf en daube
Chinese Ribs
Grilled sardines
Roast chicken and tabbouleh
Chicken in soy with star anise

All dead dead easy.
Anything catch your eye?

moondog · 04/05/2005 14:27

Or fondue??
No key swapping swapping though-!

dejags · 04/05/2005 17:02

thanks everybody.

Our Ds's school has organised this dinner for all the parents to get to know one another. Trust our luck to get the main course.

Will discuss these ideas with DH and let you know what we decide. He was thinking about rack of lamb - what do you all think?

what about fajitas ? if you cook the meat and the veggie bit separately and do some with not much seasoning you should be able to cater for all tastes -

A rack could be difficultif you are not in all night - get the timings wrong and you could end up with dry meat. Very slow roasted lamb with liquid would be alot easier - Nigella and Jamie both have recipes.
