children's tastes....

I have always believed that children should basically eat the same as adults (even from a young age). However, my husband says thinks that some of the food we make might not be to a child's taste - for example, chicken pie, spaghetti bolognaise with garlic in. I can't ever remember my mother feeding me and my sister a meal that was completely different to what her and my dad would eat and ny sister and I eat most things. DH's view is that I should feed my child more simple food when the time comes (although not junk food). I think his mother did this with him until the age of about 7 or 8 and both him and his brother are sooo fussy with food. I would like to know what other people's views are and what they have done and, if they would do anything differently?

absolutely worth a try. dd and i don't like the same stuff all the time, far from it, but she knows she can leave, for example, mushrooms which she loathes, on the side of her plate and that basically i do the cooking so i'm in charge of what she's offered. i think it's easier to maintain that ground if you're both eating the same food. good luck. get the vit drops for peace of mind.

We do that things (as advised in various parenting books) where you get the child to try something again even if they've previously said they don't like it. So DS didn't like tomatoes or courgettes but I keep giving him them anyway and say "just try a bit and you can leave the rest". It actually works - after several goes he now quite likes both of these.

The only downside it he is now a thorn in the side of poor DP who is a terribly fussy eater and doesn't like all sorts of stuff. DS INSISTS that DP has to try a bit of mushroom, pepper or sweetcorn etc every single time.
