my daughter loves pasta and i would like to send some in her lunchbox as a sandwich alternative; trouble is she eats it plain, no sauce, what do i do about stopping it sticking together and drying out? any thing i can put on it in small amount that she won't notice?!

I give this to my DD - just drain and rinse in cold water then drizzle a very small amount of olive oil over while it's still in the sieve.

Any chance she'd eat it with pesto? Or basil oil? Or mixed with something oily, eg tuna?

Hther · 13/05/2009 13:17

no, tuna is yuk too, have tried pesto, she used to have it with cous cous but won't have it with pasta!

i knew i was asking a difficult question!

Try sunflower oil instead - it has a much milder flavour.

apparently pasta sticks together because if the starch coming out in the cooking process
I'm no expert, just heard this

have also heard that you can maybe stop the sticking together thing happening by rinsing it in boiling water once it is cooking

like pouring boiling water over it whilst it was in the seive

Hther · 13/05/2009 13:42

i'll try the sieve thing thanks, i'm so amazed she's not malnourished!

have you tried a little cream cheese?

aseriouslyblondemoment · 25/02/2010 11:38

a bit of natural yog or mayo maybe?
it def.won't be a congealed mess if the pasta is rinsed thru with cold water after cooking as long as there's some oil in the water during cooking time
