Will poison my family if I cook a chicken like this...

Due to time issues this afternoon, I'm only able to partially cook a chicken for about 1 hour now, then leave it a couple of hours while I go our and then finish it off later for an hour.

Will I be making a foul mistake? (geddit?? heheh)

I don't know... could you not cook it for longer on a lower heat, sort of like a slow cooker?

I certainly would not do that.

Imagine all that half killed off bacteria still sat there for a couple of hours......

I wouldn't do that. what about if you cut the chicken into pieces before cooking so that it needs less time?

Or, cook it in a casserole dish or covered or whatever, then leave it in the oven (turned off) and stll covered - it will probably continue to cook until it's done?

How big is the chicken?

I'd recommend judt cutting it up into portions, then cooking it for an hour will cook all the chicken all the way through.

It's not a big chicken, but I've got a gas oven so wouldn't leave it on while I'm out even on a low heat.
Leading to my next question; does anyone leave their gas oven's on cooking while they go out?

I leave my oven on, no way would I part cook it then leave it.

My mum used to have a gas oven which had a "slow cook" setting, lower than gm1. That was designed to be left on all day, and she did fairly regularly, esp. in the winter (saved on heating )

Thanks everyone. I've never questioned why I think I need to turn it off.
