Meals to freeze for dh

racmac · 08/05/2009 17:55

Am going away for a week with ds's and leaving dh home alone. Want to make him some foods for freezer that he can heat up when he comes home from work.

I will make Spag bol and cottage pie - they are easy enough to reheat without too much fuss.

Any other suggestions?

I suggest that you look at the calendar and remind yourself of the year - he's and adult and he can cook for himself.

what's wrong with OP wanting to cook some meals for dh? If he's working, it saves him time when he gets in and is a nice gesture.
lasagne/curries/soups all freeze well
stewed apple for crumble etc freezes well

Yes, buy him Jamies Ministry of Food. And an apron.

Get a grip the OP only wants to put some food in the freezer for her husband. sheesh!

Lasagne
Curry
Chilli
Soup
Stew all freeze very well.

I think the posters on this thread will fall into 2 distinct camps, those that would and those that wouldn't (whilst tossing a tin opener in the general direction of their dh as they bundle ds's and suitcases out of the door).

MarthaFarquhar · 08/05/2009 18:06

whenever I'm out my DH cooks himself an enormous steak with oven chips. No more woerk than defrosting something, and it seems to make him feel all manly

MagNacarta · 08/05/2009 18:18

Honestly I really don't get it. If he doesn't normally cook then a week without out you will help him to appreciate you and may well encourage him to cook more. If he is capable of cooking then he'll probably enjoy it. I do understand wanting to do something nice for the one you love, but more than one dish is just mummying.

FrankMustard · 08/05/2009 18:19

depends what his job is and how late he gets in I suppose.

racmac · 08/05/2009 18:19

I want to cook him meals because i am enjoying a holiday with the kids and he is stuck at home working long hours and doing a very physical job - whats that got to do with anything? I didnt ask for opinions on it just food ideas please

Thanks to the others for ideas - any more ?

FrankMustard - Im not mummying him he has a mummy round the corner that is more than capable believe me!

Not that it matters - he works from 7 - till 6 as a groundworker - digging and running around all day etc etc - he needs food to keep him going in order to be able to pay for me and ds's to go on holidays

Im sure i wouldnt want to worry about cooking when i got home after the day he has - he is not expecting it or particularly bothered but i thought it would be nice for him

racmac - you got me muddled up with MagNacarta!!! I never suggested you were mummying dh!

I also wonder why someone posted saying that you shouldn't be doing it for your dh! bonkers if you can't cook a meal for your own dh without people telling you you're some sort of mother figure!

Hope you get more useful ideas - mine were a bit borning I'm afraid!

racmac · 09/05/2009 06:41

oops sorry MagNacarta !

Mumsnet seems quick to slag off trying to do nice things - not sure why!
