ds has a cold at the minute and hasnt been eating well for the past 3/4 days e.g yesterday he had precisely one probiotic drink, 5 grapes, half a slice of toast and a cup of fruit juice. then he woke during the night and his little tummy was absolutely growling but he wouldnt even take warm milk.

he is pale and failed looking and im increasingly aware that he will start to lose weight if he doesnt pick up. what can i do to get some goodness into him? he has been slightly better today but not sure its the right food for building him up again

1 probiotic drink
5 grapes
bowl of rice crispies with full cream milk
1 slice of toast
half a banana
1 yoghurt
1 and a half cups of milk(full cream)
a gingerbread biscuit
1 bowl of custard.

Hi booyhoo - not sure how old your ds is. My dd is nearly 2 and a half, and had a tummy bug about three weeks back. She barely ate at all for over a week - i.e. just nibbling on toast. I was really worried that she wasn't getting any nourishment, particularly when she started getting really lethargic and was speaking really quietly after the symptoms had gone away. I took her to the GP and he said as long as she's taking fluids she'll be fine. If she's off her food (he said) it is her body's way of recovering. She'll eat when she needs to. It sounds like your ds is taking quite a lot all things considered. I wouldn't worry too much. I let dd eat what she wanted as she started to pick up - for a while she'd only eat melon for breakfast, but now is back on her porridge! I got her some Minadex (tonic - with iron/vitamins etc) on the HV's recommendation, and she is back to her normal self now. I know it is horrible worrying about them, but they are (so I'm told) fine without food as long as they are taking fluids (within reason I guess - would depend on age, and for how long!).

sorry, forgot to say, hes almost 4. he never has been a big eater but i almost cried last night when i heard his little belly grumble. it has only ben a few days but im noticing it in his eyes and face, i know that being sick doesnt help his appearance but i just want to see his rosy cheeks back. probably being a bit precious.
