I just jointed a chicken!

And I'm very proud of myself

We've just gone on a bit of an economy-drive, which means I've had to cancel my weekly organic box delivery and bypass the lovely organic sections in favour of Tesco value.

With 2 chicken breasts on my list yesterday, I spotted 2 whole chickens for £6. I've frozen one, and I've just jointed the other so we've got chicken breasts for tea, and the rest in the freezer to do something imaginative (?) with next week.

Just on here to tell you all how easy it was (with the card out of my Simply Delicious recipe binders it was anyway!)

Do chicken cassarole with the remainder of the chicken, it's all the best tasting bits left anyway.

You will get used to economising, and Tesco value can be very nice. The mushrooms are just as nice, and half the price, and I personally prefer the ketchup, as it's sweeter

It's just I love the whole idea of ethical shopping, so I can easily 'justify' fair trade, organic, or just plain expensive (let's be honest!). It's merely an excuse to spend beyond my means. Thanks to a few threads on here I've recently started menu-planning, and shopping list writing, and sticking to the list when there! lol

Tesco's price matched Asda's 2 for £5 on Chickens.

I got 2 a few weeks back and paid £6 but the last shop I did I got them for £5.

my fave thing to do with chicken is to cut open the chicken breasts, stuff with light philadelphia, wrap bacon around it and bake in the pven for 40 minutes.....yummy!

But on the other hand, last week I spent over £8 on an organic chicken. So I've done fairly well by my own standards.

And I used the carcass to make pints of stock (which I probably won't ever get round to using)

Titania that sounds yummy, but these chicken breasts are destined to be chopped into little pieces and curried with courgette in order to feed 3 adults and 2 kids.

I could never eat chicken that wasn't free range. I'd rather not eat it at all. They sit in their own sh*t in battery farms and peck their feathers out. Sorry but it's one thing I feel so strongly about - battery farming should be banned.

I agree with you in principle katierocket, but my overdraft is not enough to change the world. That said, I did get a checkout voucher for extra points when I buy organic meat, so the next lot will probably have been better treated. I do hate the fact that I'm compromising one lot of principles, but then I'd rather not be in debt either. It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Well done on the chicken, I always get DH to do that it is MUCH cheaper but I too have financial difficulties (our budget is £60/week for 4 good eaters -and all of it is organic) and still I will no longer buy non organic chicken ... if I can't afford it, I'll eat pasta.
DH saw a programme not long ago and he said those poor chicken's feet were rotten because they were always in their shxt.... they are full of antibiotics and basically you must wonder how can you actually get a chicken that costs £2.50...... I mean considering teco must at least £1 on each... that leaves it at £1.50 the chicken... frightening!!!!!
