Fruit, nuts, eggs, rice cakes, ryvita, porridge made with soya milk or water, crips, chocolate, crinkle cut oven chips.

My son likes rice cakes which he has with honey but you can have with peanut butter
gf taost with smaoked salmon
I like poached eggs and bacon ( and sausages)
GF pancakes are really easy to make and lovely with maple syrup
Boiled egg with gf toast

Most health food stores have loads of GF cereals which you can have with soya milk ( yuk) or rice milk (yum)

Can you have oats? Porridge etc? I dunno. I am semi- dairy-free and vegetarian but not wheat free. I can't work out what I'd eat if I couldn't have wheat.

If you search the archives there was a dairy-free thread last week.

pagwatch · 29/04/2009 19:09

oats have gluten in so depends if you are avoiding wheat or gluten too.
Health food shops have GF porrige.
Lunch is easy. I have salad

mad4myboys · 29/04/2009 19:22

but what salad? thats all i have and no amount of bean etc fills me up or wants me to eat it! iv tried wheat free breads before and think they were horrible. got sainsburys shop coming 2morrow, whats good there?

porridge alwats leaves me feeling very sick so trying to avoid gluten aswell

What about eggs?
Omelette? Is that dairy free?
Salad with nuts in (for protein so fills you up).

pagwatch · 29/04/2009 19:28

Sainsburys do a free from range including pasta and cakes

I eat meat vegetables salad and eggs and i manage.
Perhaps it is not for you.

littlerach · 29/04/2009 19:29

Or like a veggie sausage casserole with cannelini or borlotti beans, tinned tomatoes, veg (peppers, sweetcorn) and spice.

Is cous cous gluten free?
Could have that with roasted veg.

saintmaybe · 29/04/2009 19:32

Avocado, depending how strictly gluten free, potato waffles, and i do eat salad with it.

I actually embellished my earlier post as a test to see if anyone actually reads what people post on Mumsnet. Op, or the subsequent posters. Seems they don't! .

mad4myboys - I have been gluten and dairy free for two weeks. Lost a load of weight around my gut and chest and bottom. I am sure it is excess fluid I have lost. My wife commented appreciatively today . I feel fab, have loads of energy and do not feel hungry all the time like I used to gorging on bread and cakes and biscuits. I am taking Wellman vitamin & mineral supplements to make sure I am getting all the vitamins and minerals I need until my diet is properly sorted out and balanced. Here is what I am eating.

Breakfast:

Bowl of gluten free muesli, fruit and Oatley (to replace the milk)

OR

Rice crackers, corn wafers, Nairns oat biscuits with heather honey and fruit.

I am thinking of adding scrambled eggs and salmon as a variation to breakfast with Japanese crackers.

Lunch

I eat anything that is not cereal based or contains cream or milk. Only trouble I am having is replacing puddings as so many contain wheat flour and or cream. I have got some semolina which I have with jam but it is boring and I and am collecting a few gluten free cook books to make things as buying gluten/milk free desert is tricky even in health food shops.

I drink Rice milk during the day in coffee fortified with calcium. Tastes OK and there is vanilla flavoured one which is nice in coffee.I have pepermint tea and other herb teas as well as fruit juice and smoothies too.

gibbberish · 29/04/2009 20:37

lol Mintyy, I read it and made a face at some of your breakfast suggestions

mad4 how about fruit salad perhaps with soya yoghurt for brekkie?

ABetaDad · 29/04/2009 20:38

mad4myboys - you said orignally you are are just getting rid of dairy and wheat but I sense you are thinking you may go gluten free.

There is a bit of an arguement on the internet about oats in gluten free diets. I have some particular symptoms that return when I eat oats so I am not sure if oats are good for me and may drop those out as well.

mad4myboys · 29/04/2009 20:48

well i know porrige which i make just with water makes me feel really ill all day when i have it for breakfast so i think there must be something there.. had alpen today and there is oats in it but didnt feel ill today, just very bloated... Bloating is my main problem. Bread def makes me bloated. In fact alot of things seem to make me bloated and i cant work out what or why hence cutting wheat and dairy out. If i have too much dairy i get upset tummy too (sorry if tmi here) betadad, thats what im like, always hungry and wanting cake all the time although i dont have bread, cake i try to make instead of buy.

mad4myboys - yes that sounds familar, bloating with bread. Porridge I have not had for years but I remember the pain I got in my stomach last time I did although it was made with milk.

From what you are saying I would have a go at being strictly dairy and gluten free for two weeks and see what happens. I am astonished how my constant hunger has simply gone away along with many other symptoms. I thought I would really miss bread, cakes, biscuits but I haven't.

Hope it goes well and you start feeling better soon.

y the way, I would also monitor your weight to see if you drop any - I found it a great motivator as I was a little bit overweight from eating too much bread and cakes and biscuit. I am not really doing it to lose weight but it is a nice side effect.

mad4myboys · 29/04/2009 21:14

thanks betadad, well i had ds2 5 months ago but have lost all the weight, have joined gym to tone back up so the bloating is getting me down as some days i can look 6 months pg again!
