don't bother, just smash your meringues up and mix them with the strawberries and cream, just as nice and no added work . It even has a name - Eton Mess so your friends don't think you are just being lazy.

for the shape: blob of meringue on the tray, then swirl it round and make a dip in the middle with a teaspoon. I'd assemble them right before eating so the cream doesn't make the meringue soggy.

Meringues travel well, can be made days in advance, then just assembled at last minute with cream and strawbs.

I'd go with the Eton mess myself though too!

eton mess does indeed sound a bit on the tasty and easy side. i suppose i could get little bowls or something to make individual portions...

ok, who knows where i can get 'nice' little bowls of just the right size?

omdb - i will try the teaspoon thing you say, just out of curiosity, but i dont like my chances of controlling the gunk enough to succeed!

Put the meringue mix into a plastic food bag and snip a corner off to make a piping bag then squeeze it out into whatever shape you like.

Vaguely · 28/04/2009 18:02

aha - that sounds possible...

would plastic champagne glasses (for eton mess) be funny-naffola or crap-naffola you think??

prob just as cheap to go and take a look around ikea marketplace and i can get the long spoons to go with too...

yep, you can always pipe the mixture into nest shapes.

I'd go for real glasses, champagne or normal wine glasses will do.
