Is my dd being a princess or is she ill?

My dd (2.1yo) has had a cold and cough for about a week. It's been keeping her up at night but yesterday she because really snotty and her mood improved so I think it's maybe getting better.

Yesterday she refused to eat and only wanted liquids, even that was hard, had to make things sweet. I eventually tried her with a bit of ice cream which she wolfed down.

Today she's had milk, yogarts and a bit of ice cream. At about 4pm I was eating some crisps, she wanted some and she ate quite a few. I thought maybe her throat was feeling better so I made her some pasta. She refused to eat the pasta and ran to the freezer asking for ice cream.

If she can eat crisps, I don't understand why she can't eat pasta. My Mum thinks I should give her the ice cream but I don't know.

Please give me the benefit of your experience, is she being a princess or am I being a grumpy old cow?

I vote for Princess - if she can eat scratchy salty crisps she can eat pasta!

Does she have a temperature?

My sons usually go right off food if they have a sore throat. They eat ice cream and youghurts and drink plenty of milk, as the cool is well, cooling the throat. The crisps are "scratching" the itchiness of the sore throat....

lol

is so hard to tell

sounds like she just might be pulling a fast one but when your tummy feels like it's full of snot, you generally do only want 'nice' foods (well I do ).

If you don't normally eat with her, could you try eating a bowl of pasta next to her and you might find she picks a few pieces out.

I know, as an adult, when I am ill, I often only want to eat 'comfort food' which for me would be ice cream, mashed potato, chocolate, that kind of thing. Perhaps this is the same for children?

If she has been unwell, and has hardly eaten anything I would give her the benefit of the doubt this once and let her have the ice cream. But I am a soft touch and am sure others will tell you no crisps or ice cream if no pasta!

She is currently eating a home made fruit juice lolly, a compromise to the ice cream. I hope it'll get some fluids in her as well.

I made scrambled egg for lunch today and she was really interested but wouldn't eat, she just wanted to feed me. Same with when we were at the supermarket, she pointed out stuff she likes but when I asked if she wanted something she just said no.

I don't want to make an issues out of food by getting stressed with her, so having my small angry fit at wasted food to myself.

She has been warm all day but temp not especially high.

Oh well, it's nearly bed time, hopefully tomorrow she'll eat.

confuzzled, if DD feels unwell, she goes off her food easily, so I just indulge her when she is unwell. She eats whatever she likes. But, she is good enough with her food that when she feels well again she will eat normally, she enjoys 'proper food' as much as crisps and ice cream so I know that if she is not eating her dinners and has been unwell in other ways, it is legitimate. Often, this is the first sign I have that she is coming down with something, she goes off her normal food.

and Mmmmm to home made fruit ice lolly

Thanks, I think I'm paranoid as I have a friend who's dd will only eat treat food.
