Any tips for success?

And how much would you charge for a large cup of homemade lemonade?

We live down the road from a cricket ground which can get quite busy on match days, and I think he is seeing pound signs floating in front of his eyes....

you will need health and hygiene certificates to start with.

And your kitchen will need to be inspected by environmental health.

Really? Just for a kid with some cups of lemonade? I had no idea it was so involved...

we used to do it as kids all the time!

Sadly not as easy as it sounds, as wannabe says.

If you're truly dedicated to the cause though, and do the H&S stuff, then I guess people would pay up to a pound for a large glass of homemade lemonade from a child's stall? I would, anyway! Assuming our ideas of large are the same...

the issue is the home-made aspect. Because you're handling food products the laws are very tight.

It's basically there so that not just any individual can start making things in his unclean kitchen and sell them to the public with the associated risks of food poisoning.

Thanks for the warning. I've just looked at my local council's website and I've found a phone number to call for more info. I'll follow that up first to see what is involved.

I'd still like to hear from anyone who has done this...Or have other been put off by regulations?

Never done this, but from the other side of the story.. We often travel to Twickenham for rugby matches and prefer to buy food and drinks from people selling from their front gardens. Nicer burgers and cheaper prices than in the stadium. So if you get a lot of foot traffic down your road from the cricket, it may be worth doing more than lemonade

ramonaquimby · 25/04/2009 17:41

biscuits - you realize lots of those homes are 'renting' out their front gardens and arent' actually doing it themselves?

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 25/04/2009 17:48

Still cheaper but you pick the right ones, and it's not shop bought stuff. You can tell a home-made burger from a shop bought one.

Either way, for the OP she could still make some money.

Thanks for the customer perspective biscuits - I think I'll start small (or rather DS will start small with my help) as long as we don't find the legal requirements too overwhelming! If it works well, I wouldn't mind expanding a bit, as long as it stays enjoyable.
