Will the actual pasta cook ok without the white sauce?

In Jamie's MOF Book, his Lasagne recipe says to just put creme fraiche on the top and then sprinkle with parmesan.

It should be ok with just mozzarella. I would try it - it will still taste lovely I am sure!

ah craime fraiche IS a good idea - though I have none. I've made it now without so will report back later!

Yes it'll be fine, as long as the meat sauce bit is fairly runny then the pasta will cook fine, sounds good!

The only danger is that without the sauce the pasta will go all hard in the oven but if you have a healthy covering of mozzarella it should be OK. Well, very nice actually I am sure!

Hard on top I should say, not the middle bits obviously.

I did once forget to put the white sauce on and it wasn't pleasant on top although the middle bit was fine.

oooooh success (much to my delight as I loathe making the white sauce! Lasagne is always so labour intensive to make isn't it??

I did a meat layer and then some spinach, then pasta, then mozzarella and repeat. I ended with a layer of mozzarella and then sprinkled some grated emmental over the top too and it was delish!!!!

The meat sauce had loads of veggies in it too including grated courgette and some smoked paprika, red wine, loads of garlic and some mixed herbs.

Burp...

you can mix natural yogurt with an egg and put that on - it's lovely
