I tend to leave mine around three months and that's fine. Have left it as long as a year and again it's been fine but then I have a very good freezer!

3 months is the offiial advice I think but then again my mum kept stuff for up to a year - but does depend on how cold your freezer is

I cook meat my ILs have had frozen for a few years. the texture can be a bit mushy from ice crystals but it's fine. I just make sure its well cooked.

there are usually kind of cute animal pictures inside the door as a guide

Well last week we had some stewing steak which had been frozen 2 years ago, and it was fine.

My sister raises her own cattle, and this had been lost in the bottom of her freezer for about 18 months, then lost in the bottom of ours for the last 6.

Chest freezers are better for long-term keeping than uprights tho.

Generally, if the meat has been in the freezer of a long while, it may not be as nice as stuff less than 3 months old, but it will be safe (as long as it has never partially defrosted or anything dodgy like that.
