Would like to buy one but have never had one before. Any recommendations?

Hi, what do you want it to do?

Domesticallychallenged · 21/04/2009 20:24

Mainly chopping things for cooking, coleslaw, cakes, puree food for DD in a few months time that kind of thing.

My magimix is almost 10 years old and is used regularly - no problems. For a food processor go magimix for a mixer go Kitchen Aid.

Well I have both a Magimix food processor and a Kitchen aid food processor. The Kitchen Aid looks (IMO) much better and was more expensive but I think the Magimix is actually much better. It chops things up far more finely and the small bowl in particular is far better.

Avoid the Kitchenaid. It looks good and chops vegetables ok but is not good at all for grating cheese (Parmesan) and making dough. In fact, yesterday mine "died" while making a simple bread dough: somehow some of the dough ended up between the blade and the driving element and it is now impossible to separate the blade from the bowl and the bowl from the engine. Very disappointing. My old £25 Morphy Richards is much uglier and plastickier but never had any such problems...

Which did a review recently. Magimix did well, as did a mini Kenwood for £20!

McDreamy · 24/04/2009 09:42

Oh right, thanks for that I will look into the kenwood!

TheMadHouse · 24/04/2009 09:44

I have a magimix and I adore it - it doesnt have the swish good looks of the kitchen aid and it boxy in apperance, but it is fab.

for food processor (as opposed to blender or mixer) - Magimix, every time, as high up the range as you can afford - ours is (about) 12 years old and going strong.

marmitebabe · 24/04/2009 16:20

love my magimix

MadamAnt · 24/04/2009 16:25

Have you looked at Cuisinart? They are a bit £££ but SO strong and reliable. I got a Magimix a couple of years ago and it broke down twice in the space of a month! I exchanged it for my lovely Cuisinart processor and was really struck by how much more robust all the components were.

Blahmode · 25/04/2009 13:56

Really recommend Cuisinart - had mine for ages and never a problem.
