Having friends round bank holiday Sunday for a lamb roast.

Decent ice cream plus a hot sauce made of one mars bar per person melted together with double cream and alcohol eg brandy, rum.

OrmIrian · 20/04/2009 16:36

Fruit salad with creme fraiche or double cream.

Banoffi Pie - always goes down well and sooooo easy!

bananapaddlepop · 20/04/2009 17:20

I did Dizzys white choc cheesecake a couple of weeks ago and it was easy and a real hit!

FlyMeToDunoon · 20/04/2009 17:36

Pavlova
Lemon tart
Second the banoffee pie too.

Actually the easiest Sunday lunch dessert for us is usually bought from the CookShop - don't you have one nearby?

Cheesecake is usually fairly straightforward, don't be put off by any recipe needing a bain-marie because it's not hard. And they can be made in advance.

My dd made a wonderful one last weekend. A packet of bought puff pastry baked in two sheets. Sprinkled with icing then quickly put under the grill to caramelize. Cool, then sandwich together with whipped cream and raspberries (dd used confectioner's custard, which is a very thick egg custard and whipped cream mixed together - delicious, but ordinary cream is easier.) Couldn't be easier if it tried, and very impressive looking!

LizzyIzzyLou · 20/04/2009 21:49

That sounds yum seeker! Does your dd fancy a trip round mine next Sunday

Our nearest cookshop is 8 miles away Legacy, is it worth the 16 mile round trip?

Jamie has a cheesecake in his MOF book that looks easy enough and doesnt need a bain-marie (whatever that may be ).

So now I need to choose between Dizzys or Jamies or Seekers DD's.

I would go for a summer pudding made the day before but it's not quite seasonal yet I suppose.

seeker · 20/04/2009 22:23

You can even buy the puff pastry ready rolled and conveniently divided into 2 portions! I can get the recipe for the confectioner's custard if you like - it's in a Nigella book.

LizzyIzzyLou · 20/04/2009 22:32

I just read your recipe to DH and hes keen to try it so yes please Seeker, I would love that recipe - is it easy? And when you say icing is that icing sugar?

Baked peaches - tinned peaches topped with a mixture of ground almonds, sugar, sherry, and madeira cake crumbs - 2 spoonfuls of mixture on each peach, then baked in the oven until the tops are slightly browned. Serve with ice cream or cream.

I did a gorgeous cheesecake for Easter Sunday here - lemon cheesecake. I made it on the Saturday morning and put it in the fridge - just put the topping on before lunch on the Sunday

Quattrocento · 20/04/2009 22:49

I am in love with apple cake served warm. It is the easiest cake in the world to make, even if you don't bake, and everyone loves it.

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/04/2009 23:29

Mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries for example) with a sauce made from melted white chocolate mixed with double cream, and served warm.
