New kitchen project in chaos still, latest oven to arrive was returned damaged today. HAve borrowed a slow cooker with no instructions so now have that to supplement my microwave. Have no idea what to do in it but we had warmed up beef stew tonight and chicken casserole last night. Any ideas for scrummy stuff anyone?

Oh did Leg of Lamb today - shoved in veg stock/can also use wine & stock, some carrots and onions and garlic. Then put in seasoned leg of lamb and left it for about 7 hours on low/medium. Lovely, easy to cut lamb and a nice gravy to!

Other than that you can roast beef - joint of beef (you can brown it before if you want to) put into slow cooker, turn on and leave to cook - juices make a nice gravy and the meet falls apart and is delicious. (DO the same with all meat - chicken/pork etc)

Anything is good with dumplings on. Can make pasta casseroles. Bolgnese sauce works to. Pulses, tomatoes, pasta, dumpling, potatoes. Really you can mix and match to your hearts content.

You can cook puddings in to - steamed puds, xmas pud, baked apples.

Gorgeous recipe I do all the time which works with different cuts of lamb - either a joint or diced lamb.

  • Roll the lamb in flour and brown in batches. place in slow cooker. In same pan add 2-3 cloves garlic, glass white wine, half pint beef or lamb stock. Pour into slow cooker. Add 2 cans tinned tomatoes, can cannellini beans, and a couple of sprigs of rosemary.

Cook for between 4-6 hours, serve with cous cous/rice/bread.

Also, a great ragu which is great with pasta, or as a base for lasagne/shepherds pie (vary the quantities to make less if required):

2k beef mince, browned
bottle red wine
litre water
salt & pepper
2 cloves garlic
bouquet garni (or mix of oregano/rosemary/thyme/bay)
litre passatta
2 chopped carrots
2 sticks celery
chopped onion
5 tblsp oil (optional)

Bung all into pan, cook 6-8 hrs. Makes a lovely rich sauce, great for kids too.

I'll hunt out some more recipes and post them when I get chance this weekend.

Good luck

Forgive me if you knew already, but I do cous cous just by adding boiling water to the grains, leave for about 10 mins - no need for a hob!

I sometimes make a lovely chicken casserole.
Some diced chicken, chorizo, glass of white wine (or rose is surprisingly nice) spring onions and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Add mixed herbs and black pepper.
Whack it all in and leave all day.
Do you have a rice cooker? It's lovely with rice. You could get the microwave stuff!
