Preferably fairtrade, with caffeine and as close as possible to real coffee. Full flavoured but not bitter.

Thank you. I have been in coffee exile for a looong time.

I would try either M&S gold blend equivalent, or possibly co-op.

If you haven't had any "real" coffee for a while, then they would probably be ok.

Also M&S do some of those mini filters, so you get the taste of ground coffee but not the faff of the cafetiere/filter machine.

p.s. all of the co-op's and M&S own brands of tea and coffee are fairtrade.

The closest I have ever found is Percol.

McDreamy · 14/04/2009 20:52

I love Percol and generally dislike most instant coffees. here

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/04/2009 20:52

It is not fairtrade though. Nothing I have ever had fairtrade tastes anything remotely like real coffee.

McDreamy · 14/04/2009 20:53

lol pavlov x post!

McDreamy · 14/04/2009 20:54

It is fairtrade!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/04/2009 20:54

McDreamy - it is quite like proper coffee though isn't it? Even DH thinks so and he is a coffee snob.

McDreamy · 14/04/2009 20:55

Or at least the one I like is!!!!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/04/2009 20:55

Oh is it? result - so i was being all conscientious without realising it?! Lovely.

onepieceofcremeegg · 14/04/2009 20:55

Incidentally Percol ground coffee is great too (but not what you asked)

geordieminx · 14/04/2009 20:55

I love Carte Noir

compo · 14/04/2009 20:56

Tesco's own is fine

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/04/2009 20:56

oh no, not being conscientious at all, i get the one in the black jar

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/04/2009 20:56

Why not just ground and a cafetiere? It's no hassle making it, and hardly a problem to have to rinse the jug out afterwards.

morningpaper · 14/04/2009 20:56

instant coffee is all viiiile

just buy proper stuff, it tastes a zillion times better and the coffee grinds are great for the compost

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/04/2009 20:57

And Whittards used to make cups with their own little filter, so that you could make coffee for one.

Pollyanna · 14/04/2009 20:57

the cafe direct intense one is nice I think. Hard to get hold of though.

missorinoco · 14/04/2009 20:58

i love douwe egberts gold. it's not fairtrade though.

dh is a real coffee fan and he likes carte noir (kenko) if you prefer it stronger.

morningpaper · 14/04/2009 20:58

ahhh I am with you beacuaseimworthit

the pleasure of real coffee is AMAZING

McDreamy · 14/04/2009 21:01

I have to say I am most impressed as I am a bit of a coffee snob! After 3 years of living in Cyprus where instant coffee is VILE I became a bit dependant on ground coffee. However when I became pregnant I wanted to cut down on my caffiene so attempted to go instant - percol came out tops but I must confess I still prefer ground!

fadingfast · 14/04/2009 21:30

Thanks. Will definitely try the Percol due to so many recommendations. I agree that ground coffee is miles better, but this is for consumption at work so not really an option. Just something other than the vile nescafe available at work would be good!

I also prefer proper coffee but just can't be bothered . I think the next best thing is Nestle Alta Rica, not fairtrade unfortunately but I agree with pavlov about fairtrade never tasting very good. Must try percol, never heard of it before!
