My ds is now 12 months old. I really don't know what to give him, should he still have porridge and a drink of milk for breakfast or should he have finger food like toast with a cup of juice. How much milk should he have and when should he have it? I think it is good to get him accustomed to regular mealtimes and snack times even at this age as when he is at nursery they have set times. I have been giving him milk at breakfast, teatime and before bed about a pint a day altogether but I have just remembered that snack time at nurseries is milk. Therefore would it be better to give him milk at around 10 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon as part of his mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks and give water or juice at all other times

Porridge is a much better start to the day than toast. Milk and water are better as drinks than juice. As for amounts and timings, in our experience it's been whatever, whenever, as dd wasn't very into food. I think it's what suits you really and around a pint of milk sounds fine if he's eating other foods too. he'll probably just start refusing it when he feels it's too much.

DD is 12 months old and se still enoys her milk when she wakes up in a morning. She has about 5oz of formula from a spout as she doesn't like drinking cows milk. She also has breakfast after this - something like Weetabix, Ready Brek, eggy bread, toast and marmite, scrambled eggs, etc. She then has half a slice of toast when she gets to nursery as a mid morning snack. During the day she drinks water or juice. In terms of food she has breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack (plain biscuit or fruit) and then tea. At bedtime, after her bath she has another 5oz milk (but is starting to not want this as much).

At nursery her timings are very strict and routine:
6:45am - wake and milk; breakfast
9am - toast at nursery, water or juice
11:30am - 2 course lunch, water or juice
2pm - snack, drink
3:30pm - tea, drink
6:30pm (often has another small snack whilst we have our meal)
7:15pm - bedtime milk

The days I don't work, annd at weekends we have very little routine. She has much the same meals in the same order but the timings are completely out! She copes just fine though.
