Hi, my sister has coeliacs desiese and can't have gluten.
I haven't seen her in ages and she's comming around next week for drinks. I just wondered what she could have for nibbles?
I remember she had a book that told her what she could have, it even listed supermarkets.
Is there anything like that on the internet?
Thanks.

carrot, celery sticks and dips?
Can she have cheese?
Most supermarkets do a range of gluten free foods.

surely nuts? Not ones that have been dry roasted though

olives
pinapple and cheese on a stick or cheese and avacado on a stick - very 70's

could you buy some gluten free savoury-type biscuits and then a range of toppings - roast pepper, ham, cheese, artichoke, smoked salmon, olives (basically the less processed the better - as it's easier to know if they're ok). My brother is coeliacs - and the main cuplrit is wheat flour - and it's in all manner of things where you wouldn;t expect it - but not usually in proteins like meat and cheese, or in vegetables (but it is usually in sausage). whatever you do get - keep the wrapping so that she can double check for herself.

Thanks everyone, that sounds great.

pringles! plain crisps are usually ok - it should say if it is not suitable for coeliacs on the label.

one tip - if you're looing for something gluten free in the supermarket (eg biscuits) very often they're not in the biscuits section, but in a special gluten free section

kingprawntikka · 06/04/2009 09:59

Don't think pringles are ok, they are re-constituted potato and i'm pretty sure they have wheat flour in them. Plain proper crisps are fine though.

Some of the Kettle chips are fine, (the yellow packet, cheese I think, and the green packet), Dorritos in the blue packet, pop corn and Butterkist! (just demolished a mini pack this very minute). All the healthy food. Being a coelic is a real pita sometimes, so when i find the nicer treats, i grab them.
The free from breadsticks are like cardboard.

MLL, check with her whether or not she can have oats - some coeliacs can as the gluten in oats is substantially different from other forms of gluten - in which case you can offer her oaty things.

If you can find them, Sakata rice crackers are wheat/gluten free (but Thai Bites and other own brand jobs usually have wheat flour in them ). Mini rice cakes are just about edible...
