Long life has been treated differently to fresh milk (normally by heating it to a very high temp which is why it's called UHT). The heating would get rid of some of the nutritional content. It is cheaper though so maybe you could use it for cakes/cooking rather then for breakfast/drinking? It shouldn't really matter this way.

long-life tastes like shite, imo

my mother buys long-life skimmed 'milk', it's a disgrace to cows everywhere

It is not crap it has no additives to preserve it (many people do belive it is long life because stuff has been added to it). As FluffyBunny said it has been heated at high temperature, I am not aware that the process takes any goodness away though.

It would do something to the nutritional value if it's heated to death Gorionine. You can look at the values on the back and compare them. I don't use it as it does taste like shit, IME, Cravendale lasts for ages but is more expensive. I suggest using it for cooking as the food should mask it's taste.

I only have long life at home, not because it is cheaper but because since I was pregnant with DD1 (10 years ago) I just cannot stand the smell of "normal milk " when I warm it up in the morning for breakfast!

my nan used to have full-fat sterilised milk back in the 70's

now that really did taste like shit

Living in Spain we only have long-life milk because it's the norm here, and I've got used to the taste, and in fact now prefer it to fresh milk.

I've got a carton of semi-skimmed in front of me now. The nutritional values are (for 100ml):
Energy - 187 KJ (44 Kcal)
Protein: 3.05 g
Carbohydrates: 4.55 g
Fat: 1.55 g
Calcium: 120 mg

Ahh, sterilised milk. I remember it well.
