Milk recommended for how long

Dull question I know but dd 19mo has been poorly for a few days and we haven't given her her milk morning and evening.

She was taking 8oz in the moring and about 8oz before bed. Now they were becomong a battleground. DH wondering if she still needs that amount of milk or is there a recommended amount for her age.

As may be blatently obvious she is our first and family not nearby to ask so told himI would check with Mumsnet who would know

they need the equivelent of a pint a day while they are still growing rapidly, and I think at least up until they are 5 (altho mine are all older than that now so could well be talking pants).

it does not have to be in the form of a drink of milk however.

cheese, yogurts, milk-based puddings, milk-based sauces mixed with pasta etc...........all these will add up to the right amount.

my eldest hated drinking milk after I weaned her from me, so she would have milk on her cereal in the morning, cubes of cheese with her lunch followed by a yogurt or fromage frais, and then either a cheesy pasta, scrambled eggs, fish in a white or buttery sauce for dinner follwed by rice pudding or something with custard. it all added up, and she never seemed to miss out on the regulation bottle that my others had as toddlers.

350mls is recommended from 1 year. This doesn't all have to be in drink form as milk in cereal and any other dairy products count too.

Thank you very much Psychomum5 now I am the most anally retentive person around is there a conversion possible such as 20gm cheese = 2oz milk. I am a worry freak I know bear with me

sorry......got busy elsewhere.

not sure on the exact amounts to be honest.....I just tried to guess.

I do know that cheese is a more 'dense' form of milk so a small bit of cheese would add up to a largish glass (not exact maths sorry, but DD1 seemed to certainly have over and above the amount she needed according to my fab HV at the time)

oh, and also.....

if it is the calcium aspect that worries you, there is other foods that contain calcium....broccoli, hummus, sardines, tinned salmon for a few.

and

you can get calcium enriched bottled water too, so could give her that as a drink mixed with fruit juice if she is not keen on plain water.

oh, and also......not recommended as such, but DD1 loved ice-cream and milk-shake. another good, (tasty) source!
