Made a birthday cake for my ds and just remembered I use to eat the cake mixture left over in the bowl when I was small and came to no harm - but for some reason - I wouldn't let ds 3 today do it incase it made him sick - have I lost the plot

I don't as the mixture contained raw eggs . DS1 begged me on saturday after he cooked fairy cakes .

Bodybuilders drink raw eggs though don't they

I feel terrible, but I don't want to give them worms, or salmonella

Cake mixture tastes even better than cooked cake imho. Yum.

DanJARMouse · 30/03/2009 18:43

yum yum yum

love to lick the bowl, spoons whatever.... let the kids have a little taste but nothing like the amount I get!

DH only stopped me when I was pg... and i can remember getting very shirty with him over it LOL

Are there worms in raw eggs? I have never heard that. Raw meat perhaps?

And the number of GB eggs infected with salmonella these days is TINY.

TrillianAstra · 30/03/2009 18:45

Check your eggs. Eggs with the lion mark come from chickens that have been vaccinated against salmonella. Healthy chickens = raw eggs that are fine to eat (even for young children and pregnant ladies as far as I know).

I loove cake mixture, but licking the bowl with leftover icing is even better.

And just make sure the eggs are in date.

Sometimes I make cakes using eggs that are a couple of days out of date , and I don't let DD eat the cake mixture then.
But if they are in date, lion marked eggs then all should be fine.

We have had to implement strict rule of no licking the spoon before the cake goes int he oven. Caught DD licking the spoon and then stirring the cake again with the same spoon Delicious!

I am a spoon licker
BUT...
This Friday night me and DD 22 months got really sick. Thought it was fish and chips we'd had as a treat for minded child's last day at the seaside, BUT all other children fine (thank heavens!)
We'd had different lunches and cereal breakfasts so couldn't be that, the only thing I could think of that me and DD had had that no other child had was raw biscuit lickings on Thursday afternoon. I turned a blind eye to my DD eating it, but wouldn't allow others - nor did they try to be honest.
In view of that I will not be eating raw mix containing eggs again nor allow my DD - still feel pants today!
Eggs in date with lion mark.
Could just be a bug, but I'm not going to take the chance again.

DS will have no chance getting at any cake mixture while DH is about.

Maybe they will share when DS gets a bit older!
