Can anyone recommend a good recipe book for baking?

For everyday cakes and biscuits rather than bread.

Have the Sue Lawrence Book of Baking which is a bit hit and miss and all the Nigella books, but her recipes are a bit too heavy on eggs and butter for my taste.

Big fan of Rachel Allen here.

Got 'Bake' from my very generous MN Secret Santa. Love it.

I have had many successes with this book - everything I've made from it has turned out well (and I am far from being a domestic goddess!)

look up australian women's weekly biscuits cakes and slices on amazon - i am working my way through it!

I've got Mrs Beeton's Complete Book of Cakes and Biscuits,

ISBN 0-7063-6806-1. Got it in 1990, not sure if it's still available, but it's got loads of everyday stuff, basic cakes and biscuits. Though having had a quick flick through now, a huge wodge of it is about cake decorating! haven't used it for a long time cos of being a Nigella disciple!

There are some newer Mrs Beeton baking ones on Amazon.

I like my little Bero one - 99p from Bero flour I think, our co-op stocks them or you can get one direct. Simple and not that big, but easy to follow and always works.

ZoeC - snap that is what my link is to, I love it.

This is my personal fav, no frills or pictures but have had some brilliant results.

Those 'no frills' ones are just the sort of thing I'm after. Thank you.

Mary Berry does good books - recipes foolproof!

I second the bero book too.

Bero forever! - my mother has the old sepia ones, I learned to bake from them and still use it - had to buy a new one as my old one fell apart with over-use.

Actually can one over-use a baking book?
