Dairy for 6 mth old with eczema?

I have had various problems with my ds feeding as he has severe reflux, although it is slowly getting better- it seems to be improving at the same time as weaning him.... who knows if this is coincidence.... Anyway, under the advice of the consultant we weaned him early, just under 5 months. He is 24 weeks now and as he suffers from excema I am wondering whether it is advisable to introduce dairy foods at 6 months or not?
As he doesn't drink very much milk, and it is a constant daily battle trying to get it down him, and because he takes purees so much better I would feel alot better if I knew he was getting calcium etc. from cheese, yoghurt etc. and wouldn't feel it was so disatrious if he didn't get much milk down. However if it will make his eczema worse then of course I would much rather stear clear of dairy, what do you think? He has been Breastfed, then combined ff and bm,and then just formula for the last 4 weeks. He had excema from very early on so I don't think it was due to formula.
I would be grateful for any thoughts on this.... thanks

My dd also had eczema at a young age. As your ds has had formula, that has dairy in it anyway, so I can't see that adding milk drinks will make things worse.

However...dairy products do not have to be in anyone's diet for calcium. Half of the world's population abhore milk after weaning, and their bones are strong.

You could do some light research into foods rich in calcium, but generally fruit and vg, particularly the green ones are best. Also dried fruits.

Another alternative, that worked for my dd, was to give her goats milk (in most supermarkets). It's much easier for the body to digest, and it has been reported that it's better for eczema.

I personally would avoid cheese though, because I read somewhere that it does not make the eczema rash worse, but does cause it to itch terribly. It worked for us.

So in conclusion, don't worry too much about milk if his diet is rich in all the "good" foods!

Hope this helps.
