Carol Vorderman's detox plan

I wasn't sure whether to put this under food or health.

My dp and I are thinking of starting this next week (after Easter so I can gorge on choc first). The only part of it that concerns me is breakfast. As you can't eat wheat, dairy etc what the hell can you have that isn't millet porridge/fruit?!

Has anyone done this detox? How did you find it? Did you feel better for it?

You could buy (or even make) a rice (gluten-free) bread and have toast with some sort of appropriate spread (sugar-free jam?).

Is CV's own soymilk ok on her detox plan? You could have that with Nature's Path millet-rice cereal.

There's no reason to not have salad, or rice, or all sorts of scrummy things for breakfast that aren't usually thought of as "breakfast" foods.

one of my mates has done this and she says it brilliant.she says the receipes are tasty its a great oppertunity to try different foods and she felt great after shed done it. id like to try it but i dont imagine it would be advised for bf mums.(to restrictive?)

jenz · 14/04/2003 15:18

do you have the book?

batey · 14/04/2003 17:46

I've been doing it for a week or so, and so far so good. I too wasn't sure how the breakfasts would go. But it's been fine. I bought rice milk, with vanilla and have that with museli. Or the smoothies are good as are the things with rye bread. And, yes I do feel good, although felt a bit ropey in the first few days, and have lost some weight too!

Good Luck!

keep posting if you do start it.......

My friend lost loads of weight on this diet and felt great. She couldnt hack it for longer than a month though - she missed alcohol and cheese too much. I might give it a go.

Don't know about detox, but did you see those cheeks on the awards ceremony last night?

"There's no reason to not have salad, or rice, or all sorts of scrummy things for breakfast that aren't usually thought of as "breakfast" foods."

I tried this detox a couple of years ago and got the worst headaches ever in the first week and by the second week they were so bad I had to give up. I am prone to headaches though so it may have just been me. Good luck with it though and hope it works for you!

woozle · 14/04/2003 20:12

I've been doing this for about a month- not sure what I have lost over all as I didn't manage to get myself weighed for 2 weeks. I have lost 7lb in a fortnight. People who haven't seen me for a while say I look really different - weight loss plus better skin and hair.

The book gives more examples for breakfast. Try to gluten free section in Tesco, Sainsburys etc. I use a really good museli with rice puffs, nuts and fruit (amongst other things)

Agree with all else said here. Give it a go!

Well I'm not on her diet but everyday my breakfast is yoghurt (can you have goats milk?) with porridge oats, bannana and apple. Yummy

jenz · 15/04/2003 09:49

is anyone doing this diet and bfeeding too? wondered if this was ok if babes is weaned or maybe not-does anyone have any ideas on this pls

debster · 16/04/2003 12:45

Don't all the shop bought gluten free cereals etc have loads of sugar in them? Does anyone have any recipes for home made muesli that doesn't contain wheat, sugar etc?
Two of my friends and their husbands did the detox and they all felt great after. My dp and I don't have caffeine so I'm not a anticipating loads of headaches. I am definitely looking forward to eating hummus and guacomole!

Hey what's wrong with porridge?!

Couldn't live without caffeine and alcohol tho' - not even for a day...

calcium · 20/04/2003 11:15

I know 2 people that did this and lost weight had loads of energy and felt and slept much better, mind you I think their eating habits were pretty bad in the first place.

I have been doing it loosely for 5 days now, no alcohol is bad but all those beans and chickpeas... need I say no more. Don't think I have lost any weight infact I feel more bloated! I will persevere and see what happens. You are meant to have loads of supplements which I am going to get next week but the book is a good read with lots of ideas, not sure on the wheat free museli sounds revolting and I got some of the buckwheat pasta which looks like cardboard!
General gist is that it seems to work for most people.
