DD has friend over who is a vegetarian, have run out of ideas. Usually get them to make a pizza or pasta and tomato sauce, but need to be inspired. Little girl doesn't really like masses of vegetables so very limited

Making pizza sounds good.

If you put lots of things like peppers/toms/sweetcorn/slices of mushroom/olives/pineapple(yuk on a pizza, but bet they'll love it) etc into little bowls for them to do, they'll have so much fun doing it she'll forget they even are vegetables.

Carrying on the DIY tea theme, could you make some fairy cakes ready for them to decorate with smarties/dolly mixures etc while the pizza is in the oven? Then they can have that for pudding once they've eaten the pizza.

And can I come too?

Egg and chips
omlettes (sp!) with cheese/mushroom/other veggies in
Jacket potatoes with beans/cheese/tuna etc

cauli cheese?
macaroni cheese?
veg fajitas?

Doodle2U · 25/03/2009 09:46

Baked potato & salad.

The fajitas are a good idea - and you could combine it with the 'make-you-own pizzas' idea by putting the different fillings in little bowls so they can make their own choices.

veggie sausage mash and beansd

Fajitas sound great. Am always wary when friends come for tea, because most of them seem to be such fussy eaters if it's not chicken nuggets and chips. Makes me so angry when my DD goes to theirs for tea and often eats stuff she might not particularly eat at home but out of politness she would never dream of saying 'don't like that'.
To be fair, this particular little girl has a really wonderful diet at home, but whenever she comes here she will say 'don't like that' but her Mum says she eats similar things at home. Thinking i am a bit of a soft touch.
Oh, I hate having their friends over, Dreading DD2 starting school and wanting her friends for tea too

making pizzas sounds very creative and it really doesn't matter if hers ends up being cheese and tomato - forcing a variety of veg down her is her parents' problem, not yours

I was going to say cheesy beans on toast

i often do pizzas w
ith ds1 and his friends (ds1 is the veggie). Often I cheat and buy pre-made little pizza bases and pre-made suace if I cant be othered
Cant remember the make....black with red writing

Seeline - tuna is dead fish so not vegetarian. Vegetarians do not eat dead animals or dead fish but do have products from live animals such as milk.

For quick and easy pizzas for kids (and students), use pitta breads as bases and passata for the sauce. I'm too lazy to clean the grater so I slice the cheese thinly - and I hate grating my knuckles too.

My DD loves deep fried battered carrots from the Chinese takeaway and also breadcrumbed mushrooms. Pesto sauce is great with pasta. I used to draw smiley faces on the pasta with tomato puree.

Couscous is great too.
