I would like to know if there are any flavourings out there that are actually really good quality and which do actually taste good??!! I would like to use them in butter cream for cakes mainly....i flavour lemon, orange, tangerine with zezt, ubt i would be interested in finding lovely flavours such as strawberry, rasberry, cherry and so on.

Lakeland sell various cncoctions you can use as flavourings and all sorts of loveliness- well worth a look and a bit of inventive thinking IMO

can you not use the actual fruits? Or would they maybe make the buttercream too runny? Raspberry sounds well worth trying, & cherry!

I knew I shouldn't have read this, now I have sweetie munchies coming on & nothing in the house apart from stuff to make something out of

Hi I work for Lakeland and we only have a few at the moment but I would try either jane Asher cakes or perhaps cake decoration or this blog

Hope you find what you are looking for and if we don't have something you'd like at Lakeland if you let us know we can suggest it to our buyers.

thanks paranoidmother, thats really helpful, ill have a look at your links!
Lucys mam, I think you could, but i dont know then how the buttercream would keep, or if it would affect how the sugarpaste sits on it....so thats why i wanted flavourings that arent going to interfere with the composition of the buttercream, iyswim?

If you want coconut-flavoured buttercream, grating half a block of creamed coconut into the butter and sugar gives it a lovely flavour (v. nice with lime zest too!).

I have been using an American site here for recipes, most of them tell you how to store & how long they'll keep for

Lakeland used to do the full range of Boyajian citrus oils, but not any more (shame - they are wonderful). You can still order them here. These sorts of things are very useful for places where you don't want zest (like in an icing that is going to be piped through a pastry bag)
