There will be 6 of us, obviously it'll involve cake, what I'm really struggling on is the savoury part!!

lots of little sandwiches- salmon and cucumber usually goes down well with mums/MILs?

scones are a must- cheese (with sundried tom would be nice) as well as fruit scones

Can't one just eat cake?

Personally I would, but sadly they're coming for a tea/meal.

Discovered last night my husband had different ideas of what we're doing. So, nice bread and cheese/ham, plus extras. Any ideas on extras? I've only got olives and cheese and olive scones on my list so far.

Gonna make ginger cake, sweet scones and apricot and chocolate whirls for the interesting bit!

This sounds bliss!

What about little savoury tartlets -- Delia does an easy recipe for goats cheese & caramelised onion ones. Or vol au vents?

I want to have a boozy Afternoon tea where we serve cocktails from the teapot!

Smoked salmon blinis? I think small, elegant, picky bits is the way to go. What about pate (meat or fish -- I love smoked mackerel pate as it is so easy) and posh crackers? Even caviar on toast.

Small and elegant

nice china and cake stand

perfect

a quiche/puff pastry tart type thing?

jugglingwoman · 17/03/2009 12:10

I've found a recipe for smoked salmon and chive pate which I think I'll make (husband pointed out this goes with french bread so less fuss for me). Savoury tartlets could be a plan, made goats cheese and cranberry at Christmas and my parents definitely loved them!

Don't know what my treat will be, probably having to try to prepare tea for happy mother and moody MIL whilst not walking into an excited son or 'helpful' husband!!
