Am i being unreasonable to give the kids plain pasta with no veg/meat/sauce tonight, because i know they'll actually eat it.

Well no - my mum used to do this with me because it literally was the oly thing I'd eat!
But would they eat it if you stirred in some sweetcorn? Grated some cheese on the top (I know that's not a vegetable BTW )

MrsSeanBean · 10/03/2009 17:58

No! I often have a similar scenario. Agree grated cheese works well though.

BrownSuga · 10/03/2009 17:59

I do this with DS when he is being particularly fussy. He gets lovely persian food at daycare, and refuses to eat most of what I cook, so it is a good standby. The other thing I do is make loads of fishcakes with hidden veg, and freeze them, for other particularly fussy days.

I'm pondering on learning to cook persian food. It always smells so good there when I go to pick him up.

Bit of ketchup on the side? (counts as one of your 5 day )

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2009 18:01

ewww Tinker, you're not a plain pasta lover are you?
Have to admit when I'm on my own, that's what I eat!

Ready4anothercoffee · 10/03/2009 18:01

Will yours eat pesto?

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 10/03/2009 18:02

god no!

DS is known to have porridge for his...

Tinker · 10/03/2009 18:02

I hate pasta. But both of mine will eat and eat plain pasta. Yuk.

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2009 18:05

I am a pasta monster
DS refuses to touch pasta
I am considering putting him up for adoption to a suitable pasta-hating couple

dragonbutter · 10/03/2009 18:10

too late. they've eaten it aaaaaall up.
they will usually eat pesto or passata with it, but it's grocery shopping evening tonight.
thnaks though.

reassured though that stealth know cheese isn't a vegetable.

just making sure - people can be pedantic round here
It tastes too nice to be good for you!
Although DS hates that too, what is up with him??

MrsMattie · 10/03/2009 18:15

Pasta with a spoon of Philadelphia mixed in and some grated cheese on top is a staple 'mummy can't be arsed to cook' dinner in our house. Give them fruit for pudding. They'll live!

dragonbutter · 10/03/2009 18:18

yoghurt is like fruit isn't it.
anyway, DH back with the shopping so curried cauliflower and potato for us.
we'll make up for their lack of vegetables.

My ds2 recently announced his favourite meal was "pasta plain." He hates any sauce, most veg, and meat. He might have it with a handful of grated cheese - has to be separate on the plate and a whole raw carrot (again separate!)

piscesmoon · 10/03/2009 19:23

My DS was like that. I used to break a couple of eggs into it when cooked and stir round and then give a plate of grated cheese to sprinkle on top.

gegs73 · 10/03/2009 19:25

I just read your title and thought welcome to my world. DS1 is a huge pain with any sauces on pasta. I just put veg on the side which he will eat and its fine. I personally don't know how he eats it though so dry with nothing on it!

AuntyJ · 10/03/2009 20:30

Thankgoodness my child is not an oddity. Forgot to put plain pasta to one side before I added the sauce. As a result no plain pasta tonight. We had a standoff for over an hour before she would eat 4pcs. It must taste awful!

blissa · 10/03/2009 20:41

I've given up trying to get dd2 to eat pasta with sauce on, last night while the rest of us were tucking into a yummy pasta bake, she had dry pasta with cucumber and raw carrots, but at least she ate it and it was stress free!

Thankyouandgoodnight · 10/03/2009 21:01

how about putting a few frozen peas in a tiny dish on the side or as a mid afternoon snack?

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 21:07

If I'm in a rush and have virtually no food in the house our emergency dinner is pasta with butter served with or without grated cheddar / parmesan. Usually they'll eat some cucumber sliced around the edges of the plate with it so I don't feel too guilty. Either that or some broccoli but the cucumber is generally the favorite. I wouldn't worry about it - plain pasta with butter and parmesan is what I eat if DH is out and I can't be arsed cooking! yum.

frazzledoldbag · 10/03/2009 21:09

Oh and a bowl of sweetcorn with a bit of butter through it on the side will often get eaten too (to take away a bit of my guilt!)

wrinklytum · 10/03/2009 21:12

lol.Have been there. Can you add a bit of pesto and a smidge of cheese?
