Slow cooker - which one?

I've decided to invest in a slow cooker so I can prepare dinner in the mornings while dd has a nap. Having had a quick look, I'm confussed! I've got no idea which one to get, has anyone got any recommendations? I'm not sure what size to get or whether digital is worth paying the extra. Would appreciate any input.

I'm under the impression that it doesn't really matter how cheap/expensive you go.

Personally I can see no use whatsoever for a digital read out. I mean it's on for maybe say 8 hours and doesn't matter whether it's 6 1/2 hours or 7 hours.

I would say most important is, how much space does it take up in the cupboard or worktop, is it dishwasher safe? and some you can put the inner ceramic pot on your hob to brown things first (I don't do that so to me it didn't matter)

also how many Litres, how many are you cooking for, would you want to batch cook and freeze some etc

Thanks Furball, I think you're right about digital, which is good because it makes it cheaper! Had a quick look today and decided the 6 litre ones are far too big, so I'm about to search the internet for something nearer 4 litres which I can use on the hob as well. Morphy Richards seem to come highly recommended on Amazon.

I would try to get one with a 'auto' setting as well as low and high settings.

It just makes sure that the food is heated and kept at the right temp.

Thanks lizziemun, I did wonder what the auto was for on some of them, that sounds like a very good idea.
