Am totally shattered and can't face trying to cook the shepherds pie from scratch that I was planning to do. Would it be terrible of me to give pesto pasta with turkey slices (you know, the 'processed' kind) with peas to 3yrold and 16mth old DS's twice in one week?

No certainly not a bad Mummy. Go for it. Needs must and it ia Friday . We are having oven chips and oven breaded fish with peas.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 06/03/2009 16:31

v v bad, obviously.

Ivykaty44 · 06/03/2009 16:31

No - mummy needs to rest to be a good mummy

My dd would be only to delighted to eat pasta and pesto twice a week and sometimes does.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/03/2009 16:32

that you would even consider such a heinous act..

No it's fine of course!

pooka · 06/03/2009 16:32

Terrible.

If that = bad mummy then I am atrocious.

DollyMessiter · 06/03/2009 16:33

I heard that pesto is akin to gruel in some circles.

PestoMonster · 06/03/2009 16:33

Nothing better than a bit of pesto IMO

izyboy · 06/03/2009 16:33

Crikey is this the worst you can do? My two had chips twice last weekend plus toast with nutella so there!Parp!

Nontoxic · 06/03/2009 16:34

Why are you even asking? The best-laid plans and all that.
Compared to what lots of children get each day, that's making a huge effort and it's certainly not lacking in nutrition.
It's actually a good idea to plan for an 'easy' cooking night for yourself on a regular basis - makes you better at everything else (polishes halo.)

alicecrail · 06/03/2009 16:35

We're having scrambled egg (or perhaps omlette) but i'm giving dd raisins for her snack so that counts as fruit = healthy Pesto pasta sounds yummy though...

Horton · 06/03/2009 16:41

We're having a takeaway. I have a severe case of CBA. You are actually cooking (okay, pasta and peas, but still)!

SixSpot · 06/03/2009 16:43

No. Next!

solidgoldbrass · 06/03/2009 16:45

Not in the least. I am now feeling rather better about having fed DS packet flavoured rice on Monday - along with posh sausages, though. And extra veg.

noddyholder · 06/03/2009 16:46

NO!!!!I had a big lunch and have just got back from teh pub 3 glasses of white rioja heavier and ds will be havin g a take away.Shattered a much better excuse than drunk

Holymoly321 · 06/03/2009 16:46

nope..... pesto has olive oil in it- good for you, basil- full of vitamins, garlic -immune enhancer, and cheese- great energy and protein for children. turkey had mood enhancers..... sounds great if you ask me ! ...... can i come round for tea????lol

WinkyWinkola · 06/03/2009 16:53

God, holymoly, your DCs are doing really well on that grub!

Mine get fish pie or shepherd's pie twice a week if I'm not up to much.

sunitaofdockgreen · 06/03/2009 16:55

No I'm fit and health even though my mum feed me Smash, spaghetti hoops, those strange pancake things from Birds Eye, little tins of various things on toast Heinz I think, egg & chips. On good days she feed me lentil stew, paella and home made everything else. Give yourself a break have a Kit-Kat!

Guadalupe · 06/03/2009 16:58

Well, I don't think that would be very balanced at all. I think you should order a chinese.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 06/03/2009 17:00

Of course not. On Wednesday my DC had tinned tomato soup and bananas.

In fact they often favour a 'picky dinner' I do for them which is hummous, pittas, ham slices, cheese cubes, cucumber, cherry toms, breadsicks and fruit salad. Makes life easier for me!

dollius · 06/03/2009 17:00

My boys had sandwiches for lunch and boiled eggs for tea TWO DAYS IN A ROW. Shock! Horror!

Of course it's ok.

Podrick · 06/03/2009 17:03

well can you redeem yourself from this heinous crime?

hmmSleep · 06/03/2009 17:07

Ha, my 3 year old has had pesto and pasta, minus the turkey 4 days running now, she's refusing to eat anything else. Having said that she is the fussiest eater I know, this post makes me feel lkie the biggest failure ever! I've taken her to the doctor and health visitor in the past who both said so long as she's eating something and seems fit and well don't worry about what she's eating, so much for '5 a day' hey! So in answer to your question, yes it's OK! xx

Holymoly321 · 06/03/2009 17:18

Hmmsleep - am so sorry - making another mum feel like a failure is the LAST thing I would ever want to do! DS1 (3yrs too) is a fussy little bugger and if he had his way he'd eat pesto pasta everyday too - without the peas! (I have to feed these to him myself at the end of the meal!)

thanks holymoly, thankfully my 18 month old eats anything and everything so I feel I can't be totally to blame for my 3 yr old's terrible eating habits, but I do sometimes wonder if I could or should be trying something to sort out the situation. She's having a croissant for dinner tonight my son had fish pie which she won't even look at. Hoping she'll grow out of it . xx
