Ladybird
Clock with the hands (unusually the same length) at 2 & 3
Play park
Fort/castle
Hedgehog

How about a hedgehog? Cover a teardrop shape with chocolate fudge icing, and push in chocolate buttons sideways for the prickles.

Or a duckpond - flan case filled with blue jelly, a couple of plastic ducks and some strands of green anjelica around the edge.

cheers guys!
my son is terrified of hedgehogs (god knows why)
duck pond is a good idea, but a flan would be hard to cut up for guests in party bags?

any others

bee
hickory dickory dock, simply a clock face and lots of choc mice
fish tank (blue/green icing, icing fish)
jungle (green leaves/grass and a snake)
ball pit (cake covered in little icing balls make a couple of heads and some arms and feet to stick out of balls)
clown
circus
Tiger

Any good?

MrsWeasley · 01/03/2009 16:06

NattyPlus2andAHalf · 01/03/2009 16:13

Pirate ship (or is that too grown up?) - two layers of square sponge carved to the right shape, rice paper for a sail, rig with strawberry bootlaces, jelly baby pirates
A castle (two layers of square sponge with mini-rolls for towers and then icecream wafers cut to the right shapes for doors windows etc)
Space rocket or space shuttle (based on a swiss roll - if you want an upright rocket use a bought swiss roll not home made unless you can make solider ones than I can!)

Find the Australian Womans Weekly party cake book. It has the most brilliant (and easy) cake recipes. Its been around for at least 30 years and is fail safe.

Pizzas. I did this for my dses when they had a joint party one year. Single layer of sponge cake, red buttercream icing for the tomato, grated yellow icing for the cheese, then your imagination's the limit for toppings.

I made ham, salami, mushroom and pepper slices, all out of modelling icing, dyed coconut green for herbs, and used candied pineapple on the 'hawaiian.'

tresure chest use madeira cakes

ANTagony · 01/03/2009 17:25

A sun made of two round cakes - one cut into slices that are then iced to the outside of the other round cake.

Trains are always fun you can be really creative with lots of little open carriages topped with different sweets (small square cakes with big choc button wheels) Tracks of fruit laces and chocolate flake or finger sleepers.

Like wise a castle cake with small and long flakes around the edge a finger drawbridge and finger canons and malteser canon ball stacks.
You can add cup cake turrets around the edge and on the top etc if you want to make it more ellaborate.

I'm making a farm for my DS's birthday.
Just a rectangle, covered in green icing and then our various farm animals on top (I am not v artistic). Their party is at a farm.
I may try and make some hay bales, will see how I go!

Stayingsunnygirl · 01/03/2009 17:41

I did a train once, ANTagony - we used Duplo rails and people around it, and made it all out of cakes etc bought from the shops. Mind you, getting the buttercream icing to stick was awful - I have a vivid memory of dh and I in the kitchen, swearing a blue streak and pretty much chucking the icing at the cake to get it to adhere.

KatyMac · 01/03/2009 17:55

Lizzylou - could you glue some shreddies together with icing for straw bales?

Lizzylou · 01/03/2009 18:28

Great idea Katymac!
Thankyou, am dreading it tbh, but am making it on Friday so I still have time to buy one on Saturday should it all go wrong
Party is on Sunday.

SuperBunny · 01/03/2009 20:01
