Salmon in the Dishwasher

Is this an urban myth or has anyone actually tried to cook a salmon in a dishwasher and did it work?

Yes it would work as long as you put it in a properly sealed bag on the long hot setting.

I also heard you can cook a chicken in foil on top of your car engine if you are going to someones house on a long journey.

Although..I don't think I would try this as undercooked chicken is a bit dodgy.

but have you actually done it.....?

My Aunt used to do this many years ago. I have also seen it done in the kicthen sink on TV, put it in the sink and cover with boiling water and leave it.

As in a whole salmon? In the dishwasher?

MrsMuddle · 01/03/2009 11:53

Yes, I've done a whole salmon in the dishawasher, and it worked fine.

I wrapped it in foil, then put it on the top rack and did a quick cyle. (I think I may have taken it out before the cycle finished - I can't remember)

It was lovely.

PS I live in a very soft water area, so I don't have dishwasher salt or anything else in the machine.

I think the sink and the kettle of water looks more energy efficient than the dishwasher, as it looks like you can't put dishes in at the same time!
