It is a beef curry receipe. I think it might be nice in the slow cooker but i am new to cooking from scratch so I need some help from you guys!

This is the receipe:

400g red lentils, rinsed
2 carrots
½ a small swede, peeled and diced
1 medium potato, peeled and diced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp ground turmeric
Salt to taste
400g can chopped tomatoes
500g of lean beef cut into 2½ cm/1 in cubes
Fry Light
2½ cm/1 in ginger, grated
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp of turmeric
2 tbsp of madras curry powder
½ a tsp of chilli powder
2 tbsp of lemon juice
2 tsp of sweetener

Method.

  1. Place the lentils, carrots, swede, potato, onion, turmeric and salt in a large saucepan, and add enough water to cover it by an inch or so. Bring to the boil and simmer until tender.
  1. Add the canned tomatoes and cook for a further 10 minutes. Pass the lentil and vegetable mix through a sieve or use a blender and set aside.
  1. Boil the meat in a little water for about 45 minutes until tender (you can do this while the lentils and vegetables are simmering), and set aside.
  1. Spray a large saucepan with Fry Light and place over a medium heat, add the spices, and cook for 30 seconds, then add the ginger, garlic, lemon juice and sweetener and stir together. Add the blended lentil and vegetable mixture, and the cooked beef and simmer on a low heat for about 30 minutes. Serve with piles of boiled rice

If I want to do it in the slow cooker for about 7.30pm tonight, am I too late? How long do I need to cook it for?

Is there any chance somebody could tell me exactly what to do? As in, do I still need to do all of the above things? I am confused! But would love to prepare while DD is napping so it is done when she goes to bed tonight?

PLEASE help me!

It's not that nice . I don't know where I am going wrong. The meat was awful, couldn't even eat it. Horrible texture. The lentils were still too hard really and the whole thing just didn't taste good. This is why I end up resorting to processed crap! We now have tonnes left over and really don't want to eat it tomorrow or anything. Think I might get rid of the meat and freeze the rest in pots for DD - she should like it as it doesn't have much taste and she eats anything. But that meat is such a waste, but it is truly awful.

Haven't got enough rice to freeze with all the portions for DD. Not sure if I should cook more rice, or maybe some pasta to go with it, or do you think it will be nutritional enough as it is? On it's own I mean?

It doesn't have to be slow cooked, although that is easier for me. BUT I don't think it was only not nice because of the spices not being fried - there wasn't a nice part of it! And this is the second meal to go wrong in a week! We are so skint and can't afford to throw away food .

I am following slimming world, so it needs to fit in with that, although TBH most home cooked meals do, its just that you use lean meat.

Maybe we are just too used to processed crap to enjoy the taste of home cooked food.

Too late, its in the bin. Offered to the cat and she didn't touch it!

TBH, I couldn't even eat it. I spat it out . It was THAT bad. Although I am not a beef person, but DH is and he said it was way too chewy.

Just get frustrated when I try and do something right and it goes wrong! I used to be very good at cooking too, but then I met DH and fell into bad habits!

Sorry you are disappointed, especially after so much effort.

I don't know where your meat came from but find a butcher rather than the supermarket, that would make a difference and it's no more expensive but the quality difference is amazing.

Now SW = I am useless with spices etc so When I make my curries (lamb, in the slow cooker) I use Pataks Paste, it's only 2 (I think, but not many) syns a spoonful. You put in meat, onion, tin of tomatoes and a dollop or 2 (depending on hotness preference) of the paste. Simmer all day and add 0 % Greek yoghurt at the end if you want it creamy.

Result.
