Can I use cottage cheese instead of ricotta in a cheesecake?

I would think so although it's not as solid is it? Is it for someone coming round for dinner or just for you - if it's just for you I'd give it a go with mascarpone

I know everyone says no, but my mum always made cheesecake with cottage cheese, just not cooked ones. They never tasted as sweet as normal cheesecake but I thought they were nice especially the peach one.
