Just something simple to use up some more of the cream that's lurking . . . my bil has given me their bottle as they won't use it & neither of them can cook so I now have just about 3L to use up still

Me again!

I've got an icecream maker, but I could make a strawberry and cream icecream just in a tub. All you need to do, is put strawberries and cream in a blender and blend it. Then put it in a plastic container with a lid & stick it in the freezer. Run a fork through it every hour or so, until you have the thickness you want.

that's it? Just strawberries & cream? No complicated or expensive ingredients?

You know a lot of stuff Maureen, am

Cadamon icecream goes really well with apple puds. Vanilla goes well with.......
If you don't have vanilla pod add vanilla essence at egg yolk stage.

Scald the cream with a vanilla pod/cardamon pods (ie bring to nearly boiling point the take off heat and cool a bit). Take about 4 egg yolks per pint cream, and 2 tblsp sugar, mix yolks and sugar, pour in cream minus flavourings. Put on low heat and stir contiually for 5 - 10 mins till mixture goes thicker like custard.
Cool.
Put in freezer, take out after every half hour or so and whip up with fork to prevent ice crystals.

Use leftover whites to make merangues or maccaroons or freeze in bag for another time.

Make fools - strawberry fool, rasberry fool, goosberry fool, rhubarb fool. Fruit sugar and cream

shame we don't live nearer each other lucysmam as I have got loads and loads of blackberries still in the freezer - we could have traded!

janeite · 22/02/2009 15:07

I haven't made this but keep meaning to as it looks so lovely and doesn't need churning:

Nigella here

Fools can be frozen to make ice-cream!! My blackcurrant fool recipe is my blackcurrant icecream recipe less the gelatine.

wow, this is brilliant, thanks very much! I had no idea it was sooooo simple, will be giving it a go in the morning!

bella, I have nothing left in mine to trade! Apart from the frozen top off a choc cake from my Playboy one

I made a strawberry fool last year for a summer pud but not bothered since as no-one other than me could finish it, everyone thought it was too sweet! But I have a super sweet tooth

You can make very simple ice cream without any special equiptment - whip cream until it is just holding it's shape. Then stir in some flavourings (my favourite is vanilla, crushed meringue, crushed ginger nuts and orange rind). Then pour in to a cling film lined bowl and freeze. Hey presto, seriously yummy icecream. You can turn it in to a bombe by taking it out of the freezer after about 8 hours and coating in thick choc sauce then refreeze. So simple, yet so good

sorry, was lost in the DIY section talking far more boring things! But this pud will last quite a while - last one I did still had remnants 10 days later (which is quite impressive given just how yummy it is)

lucysmam · 22/02/2009 22:03

not sure it would have had tonight, major sweetie munchies going on!!! Trouble is, apart from the jelly sweets of the lo's that we'd forgotten about, there's nothing in the house
