Nut butter?

My DS is 11 months old. I've read so many different conflicting bits of advise re giving him nuts or not, I wondered if any of you could tell me what to do please! He has ezcema (under control at the moment), DH & I both get hayfever, but no one in the family have nut allergies. I think he'd love nut butters (peanut, almond or cashew) but would like someone to tell me if it's a good idea or not first?

I would be careful. DD1 was the first in our family to have a nut allergy (it's quite serious) she has eczema, asthma also and my family (not dp's ) v allergic- hay fever etc. If I was you I'd be cautious, maybe wait till he can tell you if his mouth feels funny. And not if you're a long way from a hospital.
Sorry if that sounds melodramatic.

No not melodramatic! I'd rather be careful than sorry. Thankyou.

Hi its DD1 here, just to let you know that if your DS does have a nut allergy, the doctors are really good at explaining it all and how the allergy works and what to do if you have a reaction. its really quite reassuring!

Thankyou, madlentileater's DD1. I think maybe I'll ask our GP next time we're there about something else. I need to ask for some ezcema friendly shampoo anyway.

I'd wait a while longer before trying it, tbh At least til he's a year old.

I have a friend who is in his 20s who had dreadful eczema as a baby (due to dairy) - he doesn't have dairy at all (since a small child) and has clear skin, and he is fine with nut butters, so I think your DS should be ok - but try the almond first as the least allergenic of the three mentioned, then the cashew and maybe leave the peanut alone just in case.
