how do you work out how big a serving of wedding cake ought to be?

I've been working on my guest list & so far there's about 60plus people to invite.

I was going to sit down & sketch some rough ideas for a design but have no idea how large a potion should be to work out how many tiers, before I start drawing iyswim? As I was going to try & do different designs on each layer but in the same colours

this may give you an idea?

they also do this, which gives 22 slices, you might be able to get an idea on how big a slice with the picture?

The slice looks like maybe a 1.5/2 cm wide?

lucysmam · 21/02/2009 22:23

not huge then

Maybe only a couple of layers after all then

I was hoping for an excuse to do a humongous red & gold extravaganza with loads of sparkle

Well, don't suppose there is anything to stop you from doing a mahoosive one?

CactusJack · 21/02/2009 22:27

what kind of cake is it?

We had Mr Kipling slices so didn't have to judge so that size seems fine to me. ALthough if its cheesecake i would expect a lot more

lucysmam · 21/02/2009 22:27

apart from the fact it probably wouldn't get eaten, nope

Then again, I'm sure I know a little person who'd eat any icing off any cake going spare & then give back the lump of untouched cake

chocolate I think Cactus, not totally decided yet but chocolate madeira as that seemed quite easy to work with & no-one we know is over keen on fruit cakes

My MiL asked for some cake from my mother to send to the people that (she invited) that couldn't come. She rang back 5 days later to ask for some more - she had eaten it all!!!! (my mother, who had made the cake was both [grin[ and )

We had 2 cakes. One was the one that was the 'official' 2 tier cake (that my father decorated (!)) and the other one was the one that was mainly cut for use - that way we kept the top tier (in the freezer) for our 1st aniversay.

that's a good idea mistle, a bigger cake would mean we could keep some for a later date. Although am not sure how long it would last in this house

Am that your dad decorated, mine's too heavy handed for something like that
