How much juice in "an orange"?

Need juice of 3 oranges for a recipe. I've no oranges in, can't get out to the shops til later but could get on now and make with orange juice from a carton. I think that will be ok in this particular recipe. How much juice do you reckon I need?

I reckon couple of tablespoons per orange

thanks MrsB, 1 - 2 tbsp is what I was thinking. It's for an orangey version of a drizzle cake and would rather get on with it now (whilst waiting for a delivery) than wait til I can get to the shops.

I juiced a lemon recently, and that only gave about 2 tablespoons, so I'd go with 2 or maybe 3 per orange. Maybe split the difference and make it 8 in total? It can't need to be that specific anyway - it must depend a lot on the orange....

thanks, MuminScotland - OK, will start iwth 2 tbsp and see how it goes (it needs to be boiled with sugar first, which is why I need a rough estimate up front rather than just going with the flow IYSWIM).
