Jamie's chicken drumstick recipe from the Sainsbury's mag - it says use fennel seeds but I've only got aniseed or fenugreek.

I wouldn't use aniseed tbh, or if you do a tiny pinch, it is very strong and although it does have a similar flavour to fennel it is quite a different thing.

AitchTwoOh · 20/02/2009 14:58

what are the other ingredients? is there fennel in chinese five spice? i think there is.. so if the other ingreds are things like cinnamon etc then you could try that, iyswim?

The recipe is:

chicken drumsticks marinated in fennel seeds, coriander seeds, olive oil, garlic and lemon, then roasted and covered with mustard and honey 20 mins before the end.

So what d'you reckon?

Your thread title wins the prize as the poniciest I've seen today

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 20/02/2009 17:05

LOL

I can't be that poncey - I haven't got every single ingredient in my store cupboard.

i would give it a shot with the five spice, i really would. it won't be the same, but i think it would be nice.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 19:29

so what did you dooooooooo?

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 23/02/2009 17:05

In the end I couldn't be arsed to do it.

So next time I was in the supermarket, I bought fennel seeds. And did the recipe and it was scrum - diddly - upmtious as Ned Flanders would say

it does sound lovely. how long the total cooking time, do you think?

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 24/02/2009 16:42

You need at least an hour to marinade and then 20-25 mins cooking, add the honey and mustard and then 20 ish minutes more - so 45 mins cooking. You can leave marinade overnight.
