chor ee zo

chor itz o

the first one I think!

MissisBoot · 19/02/2009 17:28

chor-reeth-oh if you're going spanish or chor-its-oh without an accent.

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2009 17:28

Most people in UK: chor-IT-zo

How I think it should be: chor-EE-tho

How it probably is in Spain: [throaty noise like a rolled 'h']-or-EE-tho

FrazzledFairyFay · 19/02/2009 17:29

chor-e-tho

brimfull · 19/02/2009 17:30

is the ch bit as ch in charlie or hard as in christ

OP posts:
MissisBoot · 19/02/2009 17:30

soft ch

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/02/2009 17:30

Chor-eeth-oh

(notices MissisBoot put the same...)

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2009 17:31

ch like charlie

Why?

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/02/2009 17:32

Tor-EETH-oh

DP says that's right so we follow his lead (speaks spanish)

All except Stepson who pronouces it Chur-ITS-ow in a loud londonish accent to piss him off.

brimfull · 19/02/2009 17:34

dh pronounced it
ch-or eezo and was corrected by smug deli worker
who said
it is pronounced ch-or itso

OP posts:
brimfull · 19/02/2009 17:35

neither was right

Another vote for chor-reeth-oh.

Why on earth do people say chor-its-oh?

Tinker · 19/02/2009 17:39

But you hear chefs saying chor-its-oh. Having a mother who was a bit obssessive about pronouncing Spanish words correctly think I've always managed to get this one right

Ponders · 19/02/2009 17:48

wiki

pron guide appears to say it's chor-eeso in American Spanish & chor-eetho in Spanish Spanish but that's if I've read the phonetic thing right (& I probably haven't )

HTH

(Molesworth, the itso may come from a confusion with Italian? Although that would need to be izzo, not just izo.)

Molesworth · 19/02/2009 17:49

But as far as I'm aware "z" is never pronounced "ts" in Spanish. It's either "th" or "s". Am happy to be corrected on that if I'm wrong!

Ponders · 19/02/2009 17:49

tinker,

'Sometimes it is mispronounced as "choritso".'

Molesworth · 19/02/2009 17:50

Ponders, I always think that people are getting their Spanish and Italian confused when they say "choritso", although even then wouldn't it have to be spelled "chorizzo"?

Ponders · 19/02/2009 17:51

Yes, it would

Neddie · 19/02/2009 17:55

Hi I am 1/2 Spanish- it is pronounced choreetho. Never choritzo!

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2009 17:57

Lol @ Soupdragon

BCNS · 19/02/2009 18:02

choreetho here and from spanish family here too

Molesworth · 19/02/2009 18:02

Almost as bad - when people say "see-a-batter" for ciabatta!
