Help! Have to make cake for 25 children and snacks in Germany

I have two separate helps really:

  1. How do I bake a cake for a 4yo boy and 25 classmates? What would be easiest but also cool to decorate?
  1. I also have to provide party food for them but we're in Germany. What do they like here? Mini wursts? Help!!!

Party is 6th March so just beginning to panic about it.

What about cupcakes - very easy to decorate and I think easier to manage that cake slices at that age.

mini hot dogs sounds like a nice idea
mini tartlet/pizzas?

what about good old chocolate crispie cakes? Easy, cheap, and probably not seen in Germany? Just go with the kind of party food you would have in England - go retro with cheese and pineapple/sausages on sticks; sandwiches; pizza etc
You could make a big cake using victoria sandwich recipe, bake in a roasting tin, (cover in foil to prevent burning as it will need to cook for longer). I did one for DS at 5, covered in yellow butter icing then cut out a bat shape from black rolled icing to make a Batman cake. Else cover in green butter icing and make a football pitch. Or buy plastic cowboys and indians/zoo animals etc etc.

A cake in a square or rectangualr tin is much easier to slice up IMO. Choc brownies instead? Agree that everyone like mini pizza thingies and you can buy them frozen at most supermarkets. Hot dogs with ketchup, mustard, onions etc to add themselves is also a sure bet with boys of this age I found. Not very original but the most obvious ideas are often the best ones

Make it easy for yourself, with a bit of fruit, the usual crisps, popcorn, cubes of cheese etc

I would just do an English party

my german au pair says chips and the little wurst sausages in a chain...

She also says cheese and grapes (rather than cheese and pineapple sticks) are more expected.

But she said they don't really do finger style food at parties...

But then you could add in the English element and do something like mini sarnies, crisps, mini sausages (that they are used to), pizza fingers etc.
