Do you put your potatos into already boiling water, or do you put them in cold water and let it all heat up together?

yep, sure is ...sprouts comin' up next..do you do those little crosses or not..?!!

thumbwitch · 16/02/2009 23:51

YES! Always. And I peel off the outer leaves (but not as much as my mum used to, they used to end up half size!) When my MIL was here for the birth of DS (winter 2007/8) and she was helping with food prep, she didn't even peel the outer leaves off or anything and boy did they taste earthy.
(not sure they have brussel sprouts in Australia...)

Always peel few leaves off and cross sprouts. Potatoes - depends if i'm pushed for time as to hot or cold water. What about leaving potatoes in pan of cold salty water whilst you do school run or whatever? Not done it before as i reckon they'd be waterlogged, but gonna be pushed for time wed and wanna prepare dinner before we head of to swimming. Anyone?

My mom leaves potatoes in water all the time, so shwe can be prepared in advance etc. It's fine!

my mum used to peel her potatoes in advance, put in water and put a slice of bread on top, to stop them going brown

thumbwitch · 17/02/2009 11:36

my mum used to do the same, peel everything n advance. not the best for keeping the vitamins in, tho, especially vit C which is both water soluble and quite volatile. I wouldn't do it.
