I need some advice from more experienced cake makers . . . .

again!

My playboy bunny cake . . . would I be better to fill the two square cakes with buttercream icing & then cut to the shape? or to cut the 2 cakes separately & then stick them together?

& if I use buttercream to help stick the icing to it, rather than jam, which I struggled to stick the icing with when I made Noah's Ark the other week

Thanks for any advice, it's much appreciated

oops, I forgot to finish my second question!!!

It was meant to be . . . & if I use buttercream to help stick the icing to it, rather than jam, which I struggled to stick the icing with when I made Noah's Ark the other week, will it be too sweet maybe if I'm filling with buttercream as well?

Personally, I'd cut any shapes before filling, because you might find that they slip about otherwise with the pressure of the knife and you could get uneven "halves".

I've used buttercream beneath fondant icing and it's been fine. You don't need to use anywhere near as much as you'd do when sandwiching cakes together .... really, just a very shallow spread of buttercream.

thanks catsmother, I wasn' sure whether to slap it on or just a thin spread. I'll cut the 2 before filling as well, didn't think that they might slip & end up uneven either.
