Not convinced with Tripp Trapp

Has anyone else got the Tripp Trapp highchair? I brought one for my 7 month & spend most the time chasing her round the chair trying to get food in her mouth (which is another issue altogether).
Also, I'm not convinced about not having a tray as her finger foods go directly on the table & end up on the floor..I know this would happen in a 'normal' chair but it does seem to be harder in the Tripp Trapp.

I love the Tripp Trapp, but the lack of a tray was a problem until I got a brilliant plastic tray from Ikea. It goes on the table and I put dd's finger food directly on it. It doesn't slide around at all because it sticks to the plastic tablecloth, it's got slightly raised sides stop the food going on the table and it's got a nice design with a raised texture that dd loves feeling. When she's finished eating it's really easy to just take the tray away and leave a clean table for her to play on. I think it cost about £2.

We have Tripp Trapps for our children, but not before they are about 18 months. Until 18 months they sit in a normal chair with tray as I agree it's difficult without a tray at that age.

I mean normal high chair...

Hi
I noticed the question about Stokke not having a tray for the Tripp Trapp. this has been an issue with lots of mums. but I have researched and found that a couple of trays are available on the web and places like ebay. I managed to get mine although secondhand and its been a dream to use it has allowed me to feed my angel anywhere in my home. the two I have seen available on the net are the Sloppi from kidzmix.co.uk and the Click Clack from ergo I think I have also seen a sliding draw that fits the Tripp Trapp this wasa a simple but usefull storage solution for things like baby wipes, bibs and feeding bowls etc and all in funky colours

the tripp trapp looks great, and I do like the fact it doesn't have a tray and the child sits directly at the table.

But it's lethal to trip over (hence the name, presumably)

oh this thread is five years old!

you can get the trays on ebay. They're calle da clic clac here. There don't seem to be many so I presume they're imported.

you can also get them here: www.baby2childhood.co.uk/home.php?cat=249

We LOVE out Tripp Trapp and the Boy does too, he sits in it at the table to eat, or rather to be fed. (he's only 6 months)he also likes to sit in it in the kitchen and at the window to look in the garden.

Those are the times a tray would be handy though - I'm thinking of getting one so that the boy can play with his toys in the kitchen while he watches me cook. There's nowhere to push him up against in there.

I think that whichever chair they are in, babies will throw food and move their heads etc. We use a normal highchair at grandma's and he gets MORE messy there as food goes between the tray and him instead of just dropping down.

NessInKew · 10/09/2008 11:24

Does anyone know if the clic clac tray has a proper rim? The biggest problem I find with the Tripp Trapp is ds can't interact with and chase food around in front of him (everything just falls off the table). I think it could be slowing his progress down with finger foods - there's less opportunity to experiment with new things for him. Thanks so much.

mazzystar · 10/09/2008 11:29

love the tripptrapp
we have 2
ime fvd ends up on flovr regardless of try or not
i think, though, a better high chair for 6 - 10 months is the ikea antilop - with optional tray. cheap as chips and not as hideous as those grubby padded numbers. then you can revert to trip trapp later

NessInKew · 10/09/2008 20:14

Thanks so much Mazzystar. By complete coincidence was at a friend's place today and noticed she had an antilop. Great solution - not bad looking - and much cheaper than buying a clic clac! Thanks a mill.

We got a Tripp Trapp freecycled to us. Thank God we didn't buy it - it was rubbish. DTs kept on slumping down in it and loathed it.

Bought two cheapy Antilop chairs from IKEA, which were great, and freecycled TT on to someone else.

Given the price difference, this was a bit like discovering a Ford Fiesta goes faster than a Maserati...

we have 3 tripp trapps as slightly higher seats, ratrher than as highchairs iyswim - got them when re-doing the kitchen coz i thought they looked nice in the bright colours with all ther bits mixed up. theyre alright, but not much to write home about imo. the kids always sit on the bench seat on other side of table anyway

i am a fan of ikea for all furniture related to dc tbh... then things you get bored of/find arent as suitablke as you thought/grow out of are not such expensive things to get rid of and replace.

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 10:49

i love TT use the table top as surface. keep TT up and at table looks innocuous doesn't dominate room. don't like those hulking big tray thingies

TT aesthetically and functionally really good imo

ChupitosGalore · 13/09/2008 10:50

for highchairs we went through various kinds and found 3 of those things you just strap to normal chairs, reclinable seat, removable tray, all plastic and easy to clean, and about 30 quid each. that was durin the stage when they were all needing high chairs (only 2.5 yrs between the 3 of them) and the eldest could climb in and out by themseloves.

other ones we tried were the ones you clipm on the table, worked for one, pita for the next (who was a climber). and some wooden contraptions, one that turned into a table and chair which was never used for said purpose (waste of time)

so, in conclusion and with all my vast exp of babies (and foolish purchasing), id get an antilop from ikea or crack out me old 'clip on the the seat, grow as they do' booster seat thingamy.

rickle · 24/03/2010 14:35

I have a Tripp Trapp and am about to buy another but I'm interested in getting a tray as well. Any ideas where from as my internet search isn't that fruitful....I've seen a wooden tray and a plastic tray. Also does anyone know if they fit on whilst using the baby set?
I love the simple design and the way they can be at the table with you.

BosomsByTheSea · 24/03/2010 14:39

the Dan Chair is very like the Tripp Trapp and less than 1/2 the price.

Giggles1978 · 12/02/2021 22:06

Hi
I was given a original Stokke Tripp Trapp highchair and its has the safety bar and strap
My son is 14 months and struggles to get it there
He is still too young to sit on the chair on it own
Any suggestions
As it’s all wooden, can’t see how to adjust the bar or take out the strap?
Please help
