I've got loads and it needs to be used today.

It has to be done on the hob as the DC have hidden my cooker nob (argh)

Any ideas, I would be most grateful?

AMumInScotland · 11/02/2009 13:44

I would make burgers!

If I have a larger amount of mince to use up I always do a big stew - on the hob with veg as well. The meatier the better!

ABetaDad · 11/02/2009 13:47

Fry it all up, put in an Oxo cube and water. Boil for 15 mins, leave to cool and bag it up in plastic bags in reasonable sized portions. That way you do not need to use it all today.

As long as it is cooked thoroughly and frozen fairly quickly after it has cooled it wil store for a while and then you can take some out when you need it.

Remember to bag it up in portion sizes though not all in one big bag.

Stuffed peppers and courgettes/aubergines.

ComeOVeneer · 11/02/2009 13:50

25g Butter
1 Large onion, chopped
500g Minced beef
2 Garlic cloves, crushed
2cm Fresh root ginger, peeled and grated
2 tsp Garam masala
½ tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Ground cumin
1 tsp Ground coriander
2 Cloves
3 Allspice berries
1 tsp Dried mixed herbs
50g Dried apricots, chopped
25g Flaked almonds
3 tbsp Chutney
4 tbsp Chopped parsley
4 Bay leaves
250ml milk
3 Large eggs
50g Sultanas

Heat the butter in a saucepan and cook the onions until soft. Heat a large frying pan over a high heat and fry the beef, without oil, until golden brown. Remove from the heat and add the onions together with all the other ingredients except the milk and eggs. Mix well and put into 4 x 300ml ovenproof bowls or a large ovenproof dish. Press the mixture down with the back of a spoon.
Beat the milk and eggs together lightly and pour over the mince mixture. Bake (at 180) for 20?25 minutes for small boboties (and 30?40 minutes for a large one) or until the topping has set and is golden brown.

Ah just seen no oven. Can you not use pliers and an oven thermometer?

Hamburger steaks are wrapped in bacon then grilled or broiled and served with mushroom sauce.
Ingredients:
1 to 1 1/4 pounds extra lean ground beef
2 to 3 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, finely minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon seasoned pepper
4 strips bacon
6 to 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 dash hot pepper sauce
1/4 teaspoon seasoned pepper
Preparation:
Combine ground beef, oil, garlic, salt and 1/4 teaspoon seasoned pepper. Mix well. Shape into 4 patties. Wrap each pattie with bacon, as you would a fillet mignon steak, and fasten with toothpicks. Cook on grill 10 to 15 minutes on each side or to desired doneness, or cook on broiler. In a skillet, sauté mushrooms in melted butter; add Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, and 1/4 teaspoon seasoned pepper. Serve with the mushroom sauce.
Serves 4.

Oh that sounds delicious Comeoveneer, I'll make a note of it for another time. I've got everything but the allspice berries, what are they?

I've ordered a new nob which should arrive tomorrow.

That's a good tip aBetadad.

colonelcupcake that sounds yummy, do you think I could cook them in a griddle pan on the hob?

Allspice berries can be found in the herb and spice section of Waitrose (Barts and schwartz both do them). It is commonly used in Carribean jerk seasoning, currys and middle eastern cooking. It is like a mixture of lots of fragrant spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, thats how I think it got its name.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/02/2009 19:04

Colonelcupcake I followed our recipe and it was so tasty, thanks. I griddled the patties for 5 minutes then wrapped them in pancetta.

The DC are going through a phase of rejecting mushroom so I did a peppercorn sauce and we had it with homemade chips and corn on the cob.

Comeoveneer is it akin to allspice seasoning? I'm confused.
